Powder Coat Source?

I watched about 5 video's "how to powder coat" on You tube and decided I would try the less is more approach as was suggested here.

I got rid of the plastic BB's so I was using straight powder. 1/2 filled the cool whip container with .44 260gn SWC and added one teaspoon of powder and swirled for 1 minute. Dumped the container out onto non-stick aluminum foil cover tray and into the toaster over it went. This time I just used a strainer at the end to get all the bullets out of the container and there was not much powder left. No standing up, just spread the bullets out for 20 min. at 400F.

What a difference. There were a few that had blotches on them and I put them aside but I would say 95% were perfect. The few that were not I just added them to the next batch to be recoated again.

I casted 1000 .44 Keith SWC 260 grn bullets with my 6 cavity bullet mold. Culled the bad ones, powder coated and sized them all in the time it would take me to just lube and size about 1/2 of them. What a time saver, to heck with standing them up unless you were going to do competition shooting then maybe but for general plinking at 50 yards at the max I don't think the target will know the difference.

How would this work with parchment paper rather than non stick foil?

Thanks all for the tips. Just ordered satin black and tool blue. I have not yet casted my own boolits yet so looking forward to that. I was also thinking the same thing 10x. Parchment paper will easily withstand 400 degrees.

hunter64, even the ones with blotches would be fine to shoot (as long as the bands are coated)

experiment with less powder, and see how much you can with.

I use parchment paper, I find it's much better than tinfoil.

I've been playing with glass clear from Emerald and it's become my new go to. It coats beautifully, by far the best out of any I've tried. It gives a perfectly consistent .001 coating.

There's no reason at all apart from OCD to stand them up. All you have to coat are the driving bands after all... everything else is excess. I only stand them up because it'll drive me crazy otherwise.

Glass Clear from Emerald? How does it work on a thw 0.225 37 grain NOE PB bullet?
Standing up 0.225 caliber bullets and getting them into the oven is a challenge.
SO I will be making sure they don't touch and putting them in as they fall
I have been thinking of drilling a 3/16" sheet of aluminum the diameter of the nose of these bullets and standing them up nose down.

I bought some 8.5 x 11 aluminum sheets from Dollarama that came pre drilled.
.75 each. they work great.

Maybe my Parkinson's is less advanced, but I don't have any issues standing up NOE 311-202 GCs, which are .285 at the base. Honestly though I don't think it makes a lick of difference, you could just drop them on the paper sideways and have the same results. I've done a bunch like that to test and there's no practical difference, it's just that I have severe OCD and lots of time on my hands. Even if they touch, it's such a small area, I can't see it causing any leading.

I'm starting to wonder if the difference between colours is really just the difference between lots... maybe not, but I don't see how just colour makes such a difference. I definitely notice a difference with this lot of glass clear though, it coats way better and is much much more uniform after baking - I measured 50 bullets that dropped at .312, and after coating they all came out at .314 or .3145. I may be imagining it, but it seems slicker too, like to the point that it was hard to pick up the little 100 grainers I cast for .30 carbine.

The nearest Dollarama is either 2.5 or 5.5 hours from here....
Got a product bar code for those aluminium sheets?

Not on hand as I bought them 6 months ago.
I'll be going by there Thurs or Fri , I'll have a look for you and get back to you.

I just did my first batch the other day. Used blue from Caswells. Bought a couple of frying baskets and plastic containers with lids from the dollar store. One container to shake the powder on the bullets followed by straining through the fryer basket into the other container. Fryer basket on an old cookie sheet and popped in the gas bbq set at 350 for 20 minutes.
I am actually very impressed with myself as part of me was expecting a rather large mess. They turned out about as perfect as you can get!! Really can't much easier than that.
Sized them up and loaded 40 rounds for testing.

cheers,

10X I bought some of those perforated alum pans in Red Deer a month ago. I will be picking up more on my next trip to town and will drop some off with Dave to bring up on his next trip to the bush for you.
