I am going to try powder coating my bullets in a few weeks, but I had a couple of questions for those of you who have already done it.

1) is a PC bullet considered "jacketed" or "cast" in regards to reloading/powder weight etc.

2) what would be the preferred sizing die to run PC bullets through for 9mm luger... .356 or .358?

thanks all!

I cant answer your questions directly as iv never powder coated but to address #2 the answer is- What does your gun like. With all my rifles the bigger the bullet the better, as long as it chambers it will come out the end.

My .02 cents

I shot 10 rounds PC .356 and 10 .358 yesterday.

.358 was more accurate from my glock 17.

I took jacketed loads from my Hornady 8th for 124gr using unique.

PC bullets are like thinly plated bullets; they are between cast and jacketed.
In pistol cartridges like the 9mm you should be able to load them to jacketed velocities since hard cast bare lead bullets can be loaded the same due to the velocities being so low when at max anyway.
In rifle the limit for bare cast is often around 1700-2000fps; well above anything a 9mm can produce. With PC'ing it can be pushed up to 2200-2500fps with the right conditions and some guys have gotten them up to 3000 without issues.

I'm not sure what my pistol likes as I've only fired factory ammo through it thus far. It is a gen 4 glock 17, so maybe the .358 is what I need (as per the above post). How much difference does it make having the .003 change?

Powder coating is baked on paint. Suggest you re-think the whole idea. Why would you want or even think about painting a cast bullet?
Assuming your "PC" means powder coating, it's neither plated nor jacketed.
Cast 9mm bullets are .356". Not .358"

1. i treat them as plated which i treat as jacketed for the most part, well for pistol calibres.

2. depends on what you gun likes. i shoot cast bullets in my stock glock 17 sized to .357" and that's what i've been sizing my PC'd bullets at without leading so far. but like with cast boolits it will require testing for each of your guns to get an idea of where to go with sizing, etc.

and as always, ignore sunray.

I won't be switching from jacketed any time soon, but I've talked with a few of the guys in Europe who have been playing with them. (Both commercial and hand cast and coated at home.) It's obviously a compromise, but may be worth exploring.

And yes, ignoring Sunray is always a sound policy.
