I am new to the .223 and need a good powder for a near factory load.
I am putting it behind 55g and in a carbine AR-15.
Will something like Varget be a good starting point?
Thanks for any assistance

I started with Varget and it always gave me satisfaction for my .223. I tried the Benchmark Powerder but I found that I prefered Varget.

Can't go wrong with that. :)

For plinking rounds I use H335 simply because I can just throw the charge, and using the Eotech it is more than accurate enough.

Bulk 335 just works awesome in my Tikka sporter.
Even thou it's fast twisted for heavier bullets, I just shot a couple excellent groups with Sierra 55gn that makes me wonder if I should even try the heavier stuff

Ok so I can shoot a gun not a camera

Surprised no one has mentioned WW 748. Ball powder that meters easily, often cheaper than powders like Varget, duplicates factory velocities and can produce some very nice groups with a variety of bullet weights in .223. Just my $.02's worth.
