...just got set-up to reload for my Ruger m-77 mkII chambered in .300 WSM and need some powder to start with. I have Varget, H4894 and H380 on hand but I would like your guys input on your favorite powder or powders for this round.
I also purchased a box of Barnes 158gr TSX's if that helps any.

Thanks for any input,
Mad Mikey :)

I think most of what you have on hand is a little too fast on the burn scale for a 300 WSM. I have a 270 WSM and it seems to do best with something in the RL 19, RL 22, IMR or H4350 or 4831 range.

I think that you mean 168gr barnes tsx?

I'm using IMR4831 in mine with decent results, on some other sites they are talking about Reloader 17 being the powder to use in the WSM cartridges. saying that, I dont know how easy it is to get in Canada.

out of the powders i've tried imr or h4350 work the best. allows me to get over 3000 fps with a 180 grn and 3100 plus with 165's.

Your H380 should work just fine - it's right in the middle of the recommended powder burn rates for your 300 WSM. With a 180 TSX (these are Barnes recommendations) start load 56.0 grs, max 61.0 grs, COAL 2.825", yielding 2693 - 2894 fps, 24" test barrel, Federal 215M primer. Wouldn't hesitate to start at 59.0 and work up and I wouldn't bat an eye at using CCI250's either. I load for a friend's Browning and it seems to like them warm - his most accurate load is 69.0 grs of RL-19 giving us right on the 3000 fps mark.

I have a very good load in mine with Norma MRP [very similar to Reloder 22] With an easy 3000 fps out of a 24" tube with 180's. Shoots well under moa as well. what's not to like? Eagleye.

I have a 7mmSaum and will try some of my old favs. that should work good in the WSM as well, all are close in burning rate and indeed some are the same powders, H-380, H-414,WW-760. I like to start with powders on the faster burning side for best accuracy, of the newer powders, I'd like to give 4007 ssc a try.
