Looking for some advise here .

I just bought a 30 30 and see that Hornady has some new ammo for it . I

picked up 100 bullets for reloading but , seeing as these are the new pointed rounds for 30 30 , my reloading manual has no reloading data in regards to what powder

to use and how much to use .

These are 160 FTX .

Thanks .

I'm using LVR powder with 170's and getting great velocity and accuracy.

Eagle eye is using the same bullets that you have with LVR and getting stellar performance. I'm sure he'll chime in.

Sorry its a little blurry. I can take a better pic if its to blurry for you. This is right from the hornady manual 9th edition.

Yep, I'm here!!

And yes, I am very pleased with LVR powder and the 160 FTX in both my M94 Winchester and my 336 Marlin.

AAMOF, the Marlin frequently shoots a 3-shot group at 100 that is under 1" C to C. [4X Nikon optics]
The Winchester is somewhat handicapped because of sights, but still maintains 1Âľ moa or so.

I have a bunch of 170 loaded with LVR as well, but have not shot them yet.

Those who suggested W748 are on the ball as well.....excellent 30-30 powder with 150s - 170s.
IMR 3031 has always been a great performer in the 30-30 for me also.
Additionally, I am getting promising results with a number I bought from Higginsons a few years back. WC755.

In a decent rifle, the 30-30 is no slouch in the accuracy department, and the 160 FTX makes it into an honest 250 yard rifle.

Regards, Dave.

Could you take another pic a little farther down the page please? Those 170's are the ones I use and I'm curious about the numbers they publish.

Here you go

Good call. I'd like a pic of the 358Win page and 257Roberts as well as the 358Norma and ..........

:p

Would be easier just to buy the book.

160FTX, 35grns of LVR, primer is wlr, doesn't make any difference that I can see for the case make and I have tested all of the different ones I have, 2.535COAL, crimped with Lee collet crimp die, is my accurate load for all of my 30-30's and their is a lot of them. Barrel length dictates the speed from 2100- 2350fps. Out of curiosity I disassembled a box of the factory 160 ftx rounds after finding my load and the powder weight in them was average 34.7grns.

Make sure you are using the 160 FTX part number 30395 as the other Hornady 160 FTX's are for the Marlin 308 and have a different cannulure location.

Just my 5 cents

Wow, thanks hometownhero! The book numbers match mine within .2 grains.

I get 2200 fps with 170 hornady ,36.3 grains LVR , win brass and cci200 primers.

WLR primers were too hot for this powder I found. As I approached max listed charge my velocity actually dropped. I had extractor marks on the brass and the recoil was severe. As well, I didn't get near the velocity I did with cci200.

This was using my win 94 with a 20" barrel.

Thanks for that one . I better check the box tonight when i get home .

Kazman, forgot to say. If you're going to be loading 30-30 do yourself a favor right away and buy a Lee factory crimp die. It makes things soooooooo much easier. Trying to crimp with a bullet seating die is just an exercise in frustration.

With the Lee die I even crimp berry's bullets for plinking and they don't have a cannelure.

Highly recommended investment.
