Powder horn incident.

Ya that idea of running when your on fire is always a bad idea.
Good he is OK tho thanks to the guys Grabing him and ripping off the burning shirt.

I can just see a guy on fires running thru a BP shoot, everyone covering up there Black powder as he aproaches.
 
I've had to shoooo away a few smokers over the years at the range when they want to look too close at me loading my muzzel loader . Glad the fella wasn't hurt bad
 
About 28 years ago when I used to shoot at the Stittsville Ranges there was a guy who was shooting black powder and had a funnel in the top of his powder can. The story I heard was that he stopped for a smoke and when finished flicked the butt which hit a post and landed accross the funnel. He then tried to retieve the butt which fell into the can and ignited it. All I know for sure was that his face was burned fairly well when I saw him the next weekend after the incident.
 
You got to watch out where all your kit is,
Sounds like he was loading directly from the horn after taking a few shots.
I bet his shirt had powder on it...It just reaks of sloppyness

Could have been something as simple as having his horn on the same side as his vent on his flinter ?
One of our club members suggested that we "touch off" a horn and videotape it , and use it as a training aid, might not be a bad idea ?

I remember reading about a historical incident similar to this, that happened to a Roger's Rangers at the île-aux-noix wooden palisade french Fort (not the british stone one built circa 1830,still standing today and just down the river from the old St-Jean Military College). They were encamped after capturing the Fort about 1759 (this was some months after their infamous raid), while sitting at a campfire his horn caught fire and exploded, it took him 3 days to die the account said!
