Hey fellas. I haven’t done any reloading in a while. I’m wondering if the powder in the hoppers of my mec loaders are still good. They have the red caps on the top. I’m talking about 1/4-1/2lbs of powder that has sat in the mec bottles for about six months.
I read one guys comment on here a while back about his powder turning to fertilizer because it say too long.

Am I nutz or is this actually a problem.
Thoughts?

Usually bad powder will have a very strong acidic smell and will turn brown. If the powders are double base they will darken the plastic. Should be good but not a good idea to leave in hoppers. After time you can forget what type of powder it is in hoppers.

I have three mec loaders and I only use one powder for each gauge so I have to try hard to mix things up.

I once accidentally left powder in an electric dispenser for 3-4 months. I loaded some ammo with it as a test and there was zero POI difference I could notice at 100yds. I didn't chrony it to find out if there was a slight fps boost from any drying out or not.

I left some H335 in my RCBS Chargemaster for 2-3 days and the powder ate into the green plastic in the base. It had to be scraped off and not a easy job, so be careful, I never thought any powder would attack the plastic and left gray pock marks in the plastic. :bangHead:

Same thing happened to me. Lesson learned. - dan

You are good to go. Powder is extremely resilient, sure it can get a tad slower/faster in adverse conditions but rarely does it become unusable.
