while my lee "perfect" powder measure works great with bulky powders, it leaks with fine ball powders like h110/w296. so i'm looking to buy either a RCBS, Hornady, or lyman powder measure.

Lyman 55 - link

RCBS uniflow - link

Hornady - link

They all cost the same, so which do you guys like? any other suggestions? (not looking for electronic measures)

I had the same problem. To stop the leaky H110 and other fine powders, you can snug up the screw on the arm a hair. It gets fairly stiff but it drops the powder within 0.1gr but becomes a pain in the arse after a while.

I ended up picking up a RCBS Quick Change powder measure from Niagara Gun Range online store and had it shipped to their store and a buddy picked it up for me. Cost was $95. compared to $150. from a local Canadian sponsor. One thing I do miss from the Lee Perfect Measure is being able to remove the hopper and dump the powder back into the jug. Found out the hard way that the RCBS dumps powder on the upstroke.

Make sure to wipe down whichever measure you get with some rubbing alcohol etc to get rid of any packing residue. The RCBS had a bit of a greasy film on the cylinder, measures, hopper etc. Also give it a wipedown with a dryer sheet and let air dry out to keep it static free. Found that out the hard way. Damn H110 was stuck everywhere. What a mess.

i've tried tightening it, but then it's to stiff to move for 50 + rounds charging. yes it sure is a nice to be able to shut off and remove the powder hopper on the lee.

cant help, I would say get a chargemaster.

and a gem pro to check it?

Two RCBS mounted on the same stand; One is for pistol and the other for rifle.
The flat mounting bar is attached to the measure in the stand, secured in place with the appropriate nuts.
Can be swivelled to a more convenient position but it sits so that there is lots of room to charge the short pistol cartridges in the tray.

I have an ancient Pacific powder measure, similar to the RCBS Uniflowbut with a taller hopper. I also have a Lyman 55 which I use most, esp when I am using the turret press. I had to make an adaptor sleeve for it to go from the threaded drop tube to the 7/8x14 turret plate.

(If you read this, Trevj, no, I used a tap and a die, although I DID use the lathe to drill the centerline.)

Not everyone needs, or can afford, a chargemaster.

thanks for the info guys!

i like the lyman, but they suck warranty wise. so maybe the RCBS is the best bet.

Just picked up the RCBS one, looks good, can't wait to set it up and not worry about spilling powder all over!
