I've been using the Redding for 20+ years and it has served my needs very well for the reloading of small to medium case cartridges. It throws H322 and N133 very smoothly and with reliable repeatability. On the other hand, H4198 does not fare as well. I do realize that this is due to the larger kernels but as of late I have been wondering if a Harrells might reduce the spread in thrown charge weights which I encounter when using H4198 in the Redding Br30. H4198 is just the ticket for my .222 yet throwing charges and trickling to desired weight can be a slow process for volume reloading. I'd appreciate some feedback from owners of Harrell powder measures. Thanks

I recently picked up the Harrells Premium model and it certainly is a quality piece of equipment. As for accuracy it is also very accurate however with the larger extruded powders it will not reliably get you to .01 every time, up to + or - .03 would be your variance. It is very good with the smaller ball type powders. I haven't come to a conclusion yet weather or not the variance matters yet. Maybe when the snow clears here(probably August!) I'll test 25 rds from my RCBS Chargemaster and 25 from the Harrells and see if there is any difference. Keep in mind I am not a competitive shooters so my results may not matter much.

I know that there will always be a variance in the weight of the thrown charges with a powder like H4198. My Redding typically throws +/- .2 grs. with this powder. On the other hand, H322 is always spot on and I use maximum loads with confidence although to be diligent I do check every once and I while during the process.

Depending on the charge weight %, for example a .300 win Mag at 72gr of RL22, + or - .3gr shouldn't put someone into a dangerous situation, If you are that close to max that .3gr would put you into dangerous territory, you should probably find a new load(or a lower node). Harrells really do make some really nice gear, I have their combo press as well, it is equally as well designed/made.

Don't take offence to my comments, I'm not trying to tell you what to do, just relaying my experiences.

I have found it to be the same with any large stick powder, be it 4198 to 4831. I have switched to H322 for a lot of my loads in 222 and 204, almost as accurate as 4198 and great for varmints.
