Hey guys, going to load some 30-06 cartridges for the first time for my Remington 7400... I have Hornady 180 grains sst's... Ive always shot 180 grain factory loads outta this gun and it has never let me down... Just wondering if IMR 4895 is a suitable powder? I've loaded 308 cases with 150 grain sst's with this powder but is it alright for the heavier 180?

Thanks for any input!

4895 would make great ammo. 44 to 47 gr

If you have it on hand, use it.

if you are going to buy powder special for the 06, a grade slower would be called for. 4350 or 4831, H414 (Win 760) RL17.

Perfect, I do have it on hand, and will more then likely be getting more (the 308's were loaded for an m14) so Id much rather keep the powder the same for both... I must also mention that im not looking for sub moa accuracy by any means, just my deer rifle, where we hunt you'd be lucky to take a shot past 75 yards in the bush.

Thanks for the response!

IMR4895 is a fantastic powder for the 30-06. The burn rate is just right and it burns very clean. You can't go wrong with it. Yes, a lot of other powders are also good, but the IMR4895 is made for the 30-06 !
