Powder options for 38SW?

What make and model is it? The S&W will probably shoot 0.358 dia bullets no problem, if it is an Enfield you may need to get 0.363, would have to slug the bore.

I have some 200gr bullets, they are not the proper RN bullets as I cannot find a mold or a source but a pointed bullet for the 357. I had some reloaded 200gr bullets and what I looked at was not pushing the bullet into the case more than these, so the pointed bullet runs long. With 1.8gr of W231 I get 510fps, I know it can run faster but the groups are nice and shoot to point of aim.

Point of aim is critical, the 145gr factory ammo shoots very very low compared to the 200gr bullets.

That being said, I also loaded up some hollow base wad cutters with 2.3gr of W231, using Lyman data and COAL, these ended up just under 600fps for a 135gr bullet and hit point of aim as well.

Feel free to PM me, I have collected some data and can email you some sheets if you want, older books.

The 148 gr wadcutters I use are solid base. I crimp into the top groove, with lube in the two bottom grooves. I was impressed with the accuracy of them. I didn’t expect them to be as accurate as they are. For anyone thinking of trying wadcutters don’t seat them flush with the case mouth as they seat too deeply causing pressure to go up.

Yes. I seat them out about 1/10 of an inch.
