I know this makes me sound like a grumpy old man but a few years ago I paid $40-45 lbs of 4064 powder. It's now $80?! When did the prices skyrocket? It's almost not worth reloading at this price. I shoot 243win and the cost of reloads used to be half but it's almost equal now. I'm tempted to try 223 since it's a much smaller powder capacity cartridge and should be cheaper to reload.

Factory bulk .223 is $1 a round now, so forget that. I used to pay less for white/green box .303.
This isn't the first time there has been a supply squeeze with hoarding. Don't forget, there's a war on and Western powers are likely ordering more ammo as well at the moment.
Ignore the 'sky is falling' crowd. Prices will be elevated for the near future, but things calm down in time. Prices were almost back to normal before covid. Just remember to stock up next time.

This is the sad truth. It is steadfastly ignored by the media so it’s easy to forget.
It's not hard to forget when you go to refuel your vehicle. The price of diesel has doubled since this time last year, making it more premium, pricewise, than premium gasoline. In Ontario anyway, I'm sure there's a variance in different areas of course.
Diesel in Ontario $2.459 a liter this morning - when I drove a diesel it was $0.409 a liter I sold the car when it hit $0.829
Inflation is killing everyone not just the reloader etc - scaling down (only reload 1 caliber now) stores sell bacon at $8/pound used to be just under 5 bucks
I disagree. As someone who works intimately in the industry, do not expect you will ever see prices come down. When is the last time you’ve seen a profitable firm intentionally make less money?
Reminds me of a story a old timer told me. Back in the days of the depression ammo was so expensive that they recovered the bullets after plinking to melt down the lead. Not sure if they sold it or reused it. I think they had the right idea, they reused everything they could.

I have been doing that for years. I separate recovered bullets by estimated hardness and them melt. Jackets go to the scrap dealer and the rest is made into bullets and round ball depending on the hardness. I even harvested an elk with range lead.

I have so many fishing weights of all kinds from river salvage and every kind of fishing weight from micro shot to down rigger balls. Even have a chunk of lead from the bottom of a small trainer sailboat keel a buddy tore down for disposal.
I should really put all that to some use and start casting .303 brit. I bet there is 100 to 150 lbs of old school lead and then a bunch of more modern stuff that is alloyed.
