Well the local store finally got powder in. The price jumped to 55.00 a pound witch seems insane. Does anyone have a cheaper source?

Any powder that I have witnessed come in went out super fast at a much higher $ than I have ever seen. If ever you were saving funds by reloading, that took a big hit with the new prices. I am sure our low dollar doesn't help, but we will see what happens when our dollar goes back up ??

The worst thing is that most powder is in the low to mid $20 price range in the USA, some places have free shipping too. Even at $25US it is only $32CAN with exchange, some of these dealers muct be shipping it up one bottle at a time to use the shipping excuse.

Ya I was a little shocked at 55 a pound I don't think it will be worth reloading pistol or 223. I have 6 pounds of tight group left I guess all have to stretch it out till I find it cheaper.

Last time I paid $55 a pound for powder it was VihtaVuori... Think the shipping cost on it would be a bit more than anything domestic....

I'd say price gouging is alive and well during this "powder shortage".

stale??

"When properly stored, an unopened container of smokeless powder has an indefinite shelf life, but once it is opened, the stabilizers it contains begin to slowly but surely weaken. Even then it can still last for a very long time...."

....I turn over my stash on a regular basis so my bullets don't get stale... Now I need to worry about powder going stale too? Yikes!

Just bought from them---------
Its that hazmat fee & shipping that gets you.
The way I look at it, if you want it, you gotta pay for it-----or go without.

you have to do a group buy.. 21 pounds and he pays the shipping!! (i think you still pay the hazmat)

I usually want at least an 8 pound jug.. sometimes 2 ( or some singles for special purpose). You can get free shipping with 3 guys buying 8 lb jugs :)

I received a shipment from Higginson Powders about a month ago and pulled the invoice:
4 lb Longshot @ $29.00 each
4 lb HS-6 @ $21.50 each
5 lb Titegroup (bulk boxed) @ $27.50 each
600 assorted bullets, reloading dies, bushings, case length gauges etc totaling $597.00
SHIPPING $68.81 (for 2 heavy boxes)
Even if you factor the shipping cost per pound in at $4 ($52) then each pound of powder is costing me $25 to $32 delivered...

To the OP: $55 per pound is ripoff and the retailer should be ashamed and avoided!

Just got 2kg of 3N37 for 176 at Prophet River. That's way less than 55 a pd. For Vihtavouri remember that a .5 kg is more than a pd. while it doesn't seem like much in the small containers, that extra adds up to almost another 1/2 pd in the 2kg containers. That's a lot of pistol rounds. And it's possibly the best shooting and metering powder you can get for .40

Here in S'toon, WSS is $36 per # and last time I purchased at NPS it was $40 per #. I won't even try to tell you what Cabelas is now as I was so disgusted by what they were doing a couple months back that I haven't been back since.
