The answer to the question of why we pay more is quite simple, and it applies to many items including powders. Simply put, here in Canada we have a much smaller market compared to the U.S.
Because we have a small market we have fewer distributors and fewer dealers. Since there are fewer "players" on the supply side there is far less competition. Less competition = higher prices.

Right, but that applies to every product for sale in Canada. Not everything is 300% higher than the US. Plus in many respects Canada has a large gun market because a single supplier can sell accross the whole country, though that is more an issue with guns themselves than parts and components where the US market is huge.
I don't routinely see powder selling for three times as much as U.S. prices. Perhaps there are a few dealers out there who bought their stock with a sixty five cent Canadian dollar? Twice as much? Certainly. Why? Because sellers can get away with it. If you don't like the price you'll end up doing without. There is not enough market to support many players on the supply side. If there was a bigger market the powder would be cheaper.
Many items are noticeably more expensive in Canada than the U.S. At one point I was in the market for a mini lathe. A Chinese mini lathe sells for $628.00 on "sale" (regular price $899!) at Busy Bee Tools. In the U.S. you can buy the same one from Homier (with a different paint color) for $299. It's the same situation with hobby machine tools as with reloading components. Small market = few suppliers = lack of competition = higher prices.
If you want cheaper stuff you need to live in the U.S.

Is it really suprising that things cost twice as much in Canada? I've been around for 35 odd years and one thing I've noticed is Canadian retailers will overcharge on everything. Best bet, never go to a US gunstore and look at the prices, feels like a swift kick in the nuts standing there looking at something that's half the price in Canada. Then you look around and notice everything is half the price.
Remember how long retailers were worried about the dollar being at par, it was just before Christmas, now nobody cares so there back to screwing us left and right like their God given Canadian right.
