powder questions

"Well" is subjective. I don't use the same powder for all of them. It all depends on what you want to do. If you want bunny fart loads, you're going to need a different powder than if you want "hot" loads. Hot loads in all of those calibers generally won't use the same powder. Are you weighing each powder drop or are you using an auto powder measure?

Next comes personal preference. Some guys will recommend titegroup for everything. I personally don't like titegroup, and some love it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Then you have availability. You moght have problems finding the powder you want and have to settle with a compromise powder that works well in one caliber, and ok in the others.

Next question is, what bullet weights are you shooting, and are they lead or plated or jacketed?

Moral of the story? Get a recent reloading manual and read through it, then do some googling anoit the load combination you're considering.
 
basically they all can be reloaded by a single powder, with the exception of the 10mm (magnum type loads)

any powder of the following would be good for all

CFE Pistol
Longshot
Winchester 231
HS-6
700x
tightgroup
autocomp
Winchester wsf

just depends what you can find currently

Cabelas has hs-6 and 700x currently
 
700X will give you fits in 9mm if you use a LEE Auto-Disk measure, sadly.

Have a look at Hodgdon's Data Center to get an idea of the compromises you will make. Reloading manuals are good reads too and might make things more obvious :).
 
I have used Bullseye for target loads in all my pistols to date but am running out fast so, Titegroup is my backup after that don't know unless the availability eases up..
 
as others have said tightgroup, w231, bullseye or unique if you can find the last two. if you want full power for the 10mm try to find 800x.
 
if your question is only technical, then there are many as listed by others. If also considered the cost, it will narrow it down further. I only tried HS-6, Longshot and Titegroup. All fits your needs in a technical sense, but among the 3, titegroup would be the cheapest.

The beginner part of the question suddenly hit me.

TiteGroup is awfully dense and difficult to check even in a 9mm. If you get a chance, buy some A1 from Nobel/Vectan. It is very fluffy with a light green color, and you will immediately notice a double load with it.
Rustywood sells it. Speed and loads are close to Unique/Universal.
 
on this note, HS-6 is good too as double charge will fill the whole case in 9mm.

Longshot is pretty good too, very easy to notice a double charge. It's a very flexible powder if you want to start developing some hotter loads too. I know a lot of people use it to reload 9mm to make major power factor in their open division guns. VV N320 is also a nice fluffy powder, and I find it meters very well in my Dillon powder measure. It's a fair bit more expensive than Longshot and Titegroup, but the charge weight is pretty low, so the extra cost per round is not much.

For me it's W-231/HP-38 followed by Titegroup.

W-231 for versatility and being able to check charge levels easier.
Titegroup because it seems to be a little more available.

Both have worked really well for 9mm and .40 S&W
