I personally think this shortage issue will go on for a while. I learned it the hard way this time around and will definitely not be going through this again. You bet I will be hoarding as much as I am legally allowed to and I have the same feeling the new reloaders like myself will be doing it as well.

I'm not saying that this is wrong. I will do the same thing. But even if the powder starts coming full bore I bet its still going to be hard to find for awhile because everyone is going to be stocking up.
Shipments of Hodgdon and IMR rifle powders have been pretty regular for about 6 months now and are still annoying to track down at times. They aren't as difficult to find as Alliant powders or pistol/shotgun powders but still aren't regular stock items in most stores. I would assume this will continue for at least another couple to few months. I'm certain when Alliant starts coming in regularly in large quantities again the same thing will happen to it.
With the ATF's M855 ban there is more panic buying in the US again which could cause the shortages to last longer. It doesn't seem limited to just M855 ammo.
With a US federal election coming up there will be a mini-panic as there always is.
I wouldn't hold my breath for regular price powder on retail store shelves as a regular stock item for at least a year, maybe more.

I think I am more likely to see the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus before I see powder again. I got a similar reply about a year ago and the powder situation is not better, but worse. First it was mainly pistol powders in tight supply, now it is virtually everything.
A few of you will luck out being in the right place at the right time, I travel a lot by car and always check gun stores everywhere I go with a want list of 10 or more powders, anything that will remotely work for me and generally find nothing. Did find 1 pound of 231 in Regina and it felt like winning the lottery!
