Powder storage questions.

I am just curious how a person would store say 2 8 lbs powder kegs and probably 9 1 lbs containers of smokeless powder and meet all legal requirements? If at all possible storage inside the home would be preferred. I've been trying to decipher the legal requirements but I'm no lawyer I know most of you guys aren't lawyers either but nothing is better then strangers advice. Lol Thanks in advance for the advice.

Basically if you live in a detached dwelling, a house, you can store up to 25 kg (55 lbs) of powder. In an attached dwelling say an apartment, you can have up to 5 kg (11 lbs) if they are in large containers (over 2.2 lbs each) or up to 20 kg (44 lbs) if they are in small containers (under 2.2 lbs).

Bottom line is if you are in a house, you are okay and if you are in an apartment, you may have to repackage some if it into smaller containers.

Attached dwelling is an apartment or condo type unit. Detached is a free standing house - I would assume attached also includes a duplex house. I looked at the link and you can store (with a couple conditions) another 75 kgs. of smokeless powder in a storage unit - yes 75 kgs.!
 
If im not mistaken the storage unit is simply a wooden box to store them in you house. Also keep in mind they include loaded ammo in the powder count.
 
The same reg states that the powder must be stored away from a source of ignition and that "People not authorized by the user must not be given unlimited access to the propellant powder, percussion caps or black powder cartouches." That loosely means locked up, that's it.

Yes that wooden box thing is not in the new regs. As far as storage unit it is not reffering to the wooden box thing. Click on the link provided earlier and check it out. I'm thinking for the type and amount of shooting I do 100 kgs. Will be enough for a bit :D
 
I keep mine in ammo cans that are in a filing cabinet.
I like that I can lock the filing cabinet when i am away for any length of time and I use the ammo cans because they are easy to organize and sort my powders by type. The fact that the ammo cans are also pretty much air tight is a bonus when it comes to moisture and humidity.
 
Stack-on cabinets (with no obstructions and with 10cm on/nearby seems to be compliant).

What if you have a dedicated gun room? Could you just place the powder on its own shelf (and add the required warning statement).

There is a reason I never became a lawyer...
 
I have a reloading room with a lock on the door. I keep my powder and primers in there on a shelf. No guns in the room at all, strictly reloading equipment and ammo storage. It's my quiet room :)
