Powder Storage

Got a question.

A friend of mine wants to split an 8 lber of powder and I have no empty powder containers around. What can I use to keep the powder in?

What about the Home Depot empty paint cans that they sell? Should be air tight?

Doing quick Google search, some folks suggested using those Chlorine bottles as they were opaque.

What about those water containers used for camping - the blue ones?

I always liked empty windshield washer fluid bottles. Clear so you know how much is left. I kept it in a cabinet, so UV not an issue.

Thanks All...Didn't know about UV light and air tight so that helped a lot.. Zip Lock is awesome suggestion. Thinking best bet is airtight Tupperware container in a dark cabinet.

Higginson's has sold 5lb quantities in a plastic bag, inside a cardboard box before, I'd say that is a safe bet if you can't find anything else

I received 5lbs of powder in a heavy plastic bag inside a cardboard box about a year ago. 5000rds of 9mm later and it still works just fine. When I'm not using it, it's in a plastic tote with all the other powder in the garage.

I decant 48 pounders into windshield washer jugs. In the winter I collect the jugs from the trash at gas stations. One jug holds about 8 pounds.

The other container I like is the juice jug. It holds 2 to 4 pounds, and has a nice pour handle.

Some jugs that have been storing powder for 20 years with no sign of deterioration.

A milk jug is even more sturdy.

Just bought some Tightgroup last year and that's how it was packed.. perhaps I should repack

Also good are those protein powder containers, they have a large opening and a good size for a few pounds of powder.

Maybe putting a small desiccant bag inside the container for humidity control could be a good idea?
