Powder Storage?

I don't think there is much (if anything) you can buy in a store which will meet the Explosives Act specifications. See the CSSA website for complete details - it has to be 3/4" wood, non-ferrous fastenings etc.

I plan to build a box using free pallet wood. It doesn't have to look pretty does it.

Dimensions are approx 18"x12"x12"
I can get in 2 - 8 lb kegs on their side.
whoa whoa whoa....let's not get carried away here. If you held a square up to this thing you would see the obvious flaws. I built it in about 30-40 mins without a care in the world.
You guys don't have to overthink this...I just went to Lowes and had them cut a 6' board of there cheapest s**t.
They only charged me like $2 for the cutting and it was close enough for me. Bang the boards together with some brass screws, pickup some cheap hinges and a lock and presto!
There was another member here who posted pics of a storage box that he put some effort into, and it was beautiful....mine is simply functional
One thing that the box has on it now is the word "explosives"

If i have extra money,I'm going to buy another pound of powder and store it exactly like the store that i buy it from.
I have one question about this. When I was an active gun collector with collector status I was inspected twice for firearm storage.
Both times the guns and ammo storage was inspected but dispite the fact there were reloaders all over the place and they knew I reloaded they had no interest at all in how primers or powder was being stored nor did they want to see them???
Has anyone ever had their powder storage inspected. I have never heard of it happening, if it did by who???

"The storage of gun powder is regulated by the explosives act, r.S.C. 1990. you may keep a maximum of 12 kg. In a dwelling if it in a suitable container. this is specified to be a box of 3/4 inch thick wood, no ferrous fittings (use brass, bronze, or glue), be locked and labelled explosives. only 2 kg. Can be out of the box at any one time to be used."

You guys that built boxes... did you check your 'brass' hinges to see if their actually brass? I built a box today and I have a pail of assorted hinges and all the brass ones were just plated steel. Might go look around tomorrow to see if I can source some true brass ones. (not holding my breath)
