Powder suggestions??

...I have been lurking in the reloading forum for some time now and finally took the plunge. Going to Kamloops tomorrow to pick up my RCBS rockchucker kit.
I will start off loading for a Ruger compact in 7mm-08 with a 16.5" barrel.
What would you reloaders suggest for powder? I used the search function and it seemed alot of you guys liked Varget with the 7mm-08. Keeping in mind this rifle has a 16.5" barrel could you guys recommend a certain powder to start with???

Well, you're going to lose a bunch of velcocity no matter what powder you use. A lot depends on what you plan on hunting and what bullet you want to use. I'd be thinking a 140 grain bullet and Varget or any other suitable powder, but don't expect factory or manual velocities.
