Hi guys. Had the chance to shoot PPC yesterday, and it was awesome!! Someone let me use one of their revolvers, a S&W something or other in .357 Mag. Even gave me the ammo to play with since I didn't have any. Even had and extra holster and speed loaders to use! Thanks Ingo! :D

Anyway, I am definitely shooting IPSC. That's a given, but now that I tried PPC, I want to play that too! :D So...I need a gun. Can anyone make some recommendations? One older fellow that was there says he has a pre mass produced S&W .357 similar to what I shot yesterday but in a medium frame stainless with 6" barrel. He said he would sell it for $500. That might be an option but I would like to know what else I should consider. FYI, I like quality and buy the best I can afford. That being said, I bought two guns already this week so I might have to wait a few weeks or sell a few more of my non-essential goodies. ;) I'd rather wait though and get something good than buy something cheap or second rate.

Thanks! :D :D :D :D

Ok were you shooting duty pistol or a 600/1200 or 1500?
if you were shooting regular old PPC (600/1200 or 1500 ) take my word or not... for PPC you want a S&W... Depending on your hands you'll want an L Frame (586 or 686) or a K Frame 10, 14, 65, 66...

Depending on your budget you'll want to get an underlug, get a witchita sight, get the hammer bobbed, have the cylinders chamfered, get a pile of speedloaders and some good ammo... There have been some of the built up guns for sale on here lately so keep your eyes open...

When I was learning I they said shoot 10,000 rounds and then shoot another 10,000 I used to think that was a lot until 99 when I shot about 12,000 38 special in competition alone.. One match in Michigan was 600 rounds and I did that 3 times....

i shoot PPC with just a S&W 686 only i have done is a triger job on it a good hoslter and a min of 4 speedloaders i like the comp lll

Thanks for the response. I'm pretty sure the S&W I shot and was offered FS was a 686. Difference between the two was the one I shot was a lighter frame and was blued. The older fellow said the newer ones would erode above the cylinder along the top of the frame or something. His was a medium frame and from a generation that did not have the problem (burning out or something from hot loads??). His was partially tuned (??) and has a trigger that you can feel the cylinder lock up before it fires.

I can see the advantage of chamfering the cylinders as loading from the speed loaders was tricky. I had been thinking today that if I used bullets that stuck out a bit instead of the ones I had that used lead WDs seated flush with the case, it would be much easier to load. I also thought about crimping the ends of the case if wad cutter bullets seated flush is the only competitive option. Chamfering the chambers crossed my mind but I wasn't sure if it was safe or would effect the accuracy of the gun.

We shot 90 rounds I think. 66 shots at a big target, starting close and working back, then 24 shots at a small target from all the way back. It was tricky left handed and I wasn't sure how to shoot from behind the barricade so I rested the gun on it which I know now is bad! :)

Anyway, I missed the entire big target 6 times (probably with my left hand), got 60 rounds on paper and scored 394/660 4x on the big target and 124/240 1x on the small target. The small target was on a big cardboard backer with all 24 shots on the backer. Unfortunately, I missed the small target 5 times. :) Left hand again. I got the hng of the barricade on the last round with my right hand, and will do better next time. I also had trouble when the ballast for the lights behind us came on and I completely lost my front site in the black of the target in the middle of that 24 round string. Fun, fun, fun. :D

Great, PPC is a neat sport. Shoot a 1500 match and a distinguished match before noon. Then do a team and a duty pistol in the PM. More shooting than an IPSC guy does in week:D

I just shot my first PPC match last weekend and got 1257 out of possible 1500 with my Browning Hi-power. I is great practice for service pistol shoots :)

True, but IPSC Shooters get more and better adrenaline rushes;)
