There is a PPK on the Switzers auction with bids now up to $3200.

Can someone explain this to me? I bought a surplus PPK years ago for a few hundred bucks.

Is this the actual one that Hitler uses to off himself? (joking). Why would it be worth THAT much?

I am just curious what the markings mean that make this one so valuable!

If only I could get a prohib license. So many cool guns to own but no way to buy in this country.

The buyer group in Canada is getting smaller every year. I've seen one as cheap as $200 at the gun shop just last year (7.65mm commercial version 1960's).

It has been rebarreled, so it is restricted, not prohib. But still... Did find a couple of prohibs under $300 so far.

I see nothing about that gun to justify the bid on it. It started as a 60's dated .32, lots and lots of those in this country, prohibited. They typically sell for $250-$300.

This one has been converted to restricted class with a long .380 barrel. Not sure what a gunsmith would charge to do that, maybe another $300? So that justifies $600.

Prohibs converted to restricted are commanding huge prices these days, especially anything the has military significance or general popularity. There was a restricted conversion Luger that sold at auction last month for well over $4000. Theoretically it should have no collector value, except that the number of prohib collectors is dwindling, and younger restricted collectors are willing to pay a premium for shootable ex-prohibs.

Neither the PPK, nor the stupidly bid on PP carry zero military providence. Built after the war.

Anybody want to pay me those kind of prices for a PPK or PP, just PM me, I will gladly sell them. Same with the Lugers. Crazy.

Dlask doesn't convert the 7.65 to 380 anymore due to finicky firing and alignment issues that develop after rebarrelling and the added gunsmithing to make it work. They only work on prohib 380's now.

Converting from prohib to restricted takes time as well as it needs a competent gunsmith who is always in demand.

Thats good to know, I have a 1941 Dated Luger that was just changed form prohib to restricted :p

May be will be exported to Europe.

In Europe countrys prices are better, better!

Not this one - this crazyness is all homegrown. We all know who the european buyers are, in fact you can see it during live bidding.

All of you who think it can be done for 500 in gunsmithing work, I invite you to try. Those are prices from when powder was at 20-30 /lb. Since it's now sold at 110+/lb, multiply that 500 by 5 :p There's inflation math for you.

Actually there is a 2nd Walther PP for $3100.

Since this is an auction, it means the high bidder has been bidding against others to get it that high.
So it's not just one guy with more cash than brains, its several.

Though at least you could shoot these, and export them. Someone has bid $2500 for a prohib FN C1. Now that you can't take out of the country, or shoot. It's a paperweight and likely worthless in 30yrs when the last 12.5 holder dies.

... prohib FN C1. Now that you can't take out of the country ...

You are _very_ wrong on this. FALs are very much exportable and that's what's happening to most of them.

Also the C1 do seem to bring around 2500 mark - there were I think three that sold for that much at the last few auctions (all different serials before you jump to conclusions).

Several Shill Bidders. We see that all the time on Gun Broker.
