howdy all,

As a kool aid drinker and overall fan of Tupperware, I have been more and more intrigued by the Walther PPQ Navys that have been on the market lately. The phosphated internals, submersion capabilities, and that heavenly stock trigger have really peaked my interest. The one thing holding me back though, was that darn H&K style paddle mag release on the trigger guard. Well, I recently learned that there is an "M2" variant of the Navy which has a push button mag release, thus improving this package to the point of irresistibility. I was just wondering if anyone has seen the "M2" version for sale anywhere. I have already looked through almost all the usual retailers with no luck, and assume ill hafto wait but just thought I'd ask if anyone had seen this baby around yet. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance

I got lucky and got a PPQ with the "paddle mag release" just before they got scarce. I imagine when the M2s arrive they'll be snapped up quickly. It's probably a good idea to get one ordered so you're on a waiting list for when they come in.

BTW- I had the same misgivings about the mag release, but it's easy to convert to.

Question for the OP.
Have you tried shooting a gun with full ambi mag release. It is a no brainer and the only reason why Walther decided to add the M2 is due to old school 1911 shooters who won't adapt to a paddle mag release.
The paddle mag release is one of the best features of the gun. You cannot beat a paddle mag release and I encourage you to try one first before taking it out of the equation. When I say trying it, I say trying in in a real shooting (practice) scenario like IDPA, you will discover right away how nice it is to use only one finger to release a mag instead of your thumb (which most of time affects grip control unless you train for it), you will also notice how natural this movement is compared to a thumb mag release. bottom line, a paddle mag release functions almost instinctively and with almost 0-zero training due to being ergonomically efficient.

After more than 100 years in handgun design, you would expect that all handguns would come with paddle releases. The reason why there are not more guns like this strikes me in the head. The button mag release is IMHO an obsolete feature compared to a paddle release.

I understand that maybe we won't concur in our choice of gun, I can't stress it enough, I encourage you to try before taking it out of the equation. If you have, well, good luck hunting a M2.
The M2 has been modified in several ways, it is not the original design and it has flaws in the grip due to this, one of it is around the trigger guard, google it. I encourage you to try the M2 before taking the plunge.

Good luck

thank you for your responses.

I have indeed shot many pistols with the ambi paddle mag release. Years ago when H&K began to employ this design I used it extensively shooting a number of their pistols like the USP and P2000, although I found the H&K paddle releases to be stiff to actuate and therefore not really comparable to the easier Walther style paddles.

I also became familiar with paddle mag releases on the P99's with both the first smaller paddle and then the newer, longer paddle releases, again both of which I found far simpler to use than the H&K paddles. Although I found it easy to adapt to and fairly comfortable, my preference is a button style release. I own and shoot many semi-autos, all with button mag releases, and want to keep it that way rather than introducing a new motion into my manual of arms for one single firearm in the bunch.

That being said, the more I think about it, the more I see myself possibly purchasing a PPQ Navy with either release- but if the M2's start showing up, the button release will be just the excuse I needed for the IMMEDIATE purchase of a PPQ.

I've also read that the mags for the standard PPQ and PPQ M2's are not interchangeable. I guess I will have to research the pros/cons and weigh out my PPQ options but either way I've come to the realization that- ima gittin one.

Walther is really steppin it up

thanks again for the responses, and any more input or PPQ experiences would be appreciated!
