Prärie Hunting Rifle flat trajectory high accuracy

The 264 Win Mag fits your bill quite nicely. With a 140 gr bullet at around 3100 fps in a 7.5 lb scoped Rem 700 the recoil is easily managable and it is IDEAL for game from coyotes to mule deer. I also used to use one for elk and moose and from field experience I would not hesitate to use it again.

If you plan to use it at the range a whole lot reduce your loads, give the barrel time to cool and regardless clean the throat with a good bore cleaner or you will get to know your barrel maker and gunsmith too well.

'Flat shooting' is usually over-rated. How far away are you planning on shooting, anyway? Going from a 308 shooting a 168 grain bullet at 2700-ish fps to a 7mm RUM shooting a 160 gr at 3300fps only gains you about 60 yards before you have to start worrying about drop. And in both cases, this happens after 300 yards, but before 400. The 308 only burns 45-ish grains of powder, and the RUM is pushing something like 90. And both are flat enough to shoot anywhere from zero to beyond 300 yards with no hold over and still land in the kill zone, depending how you zero them.

You'd probably be better served getting a range-finder and mil-dot scope, and learning how to use them. At long range, drop (and wind) is ALWAYS going to be a factor, no matter how 'flat' a cartridge is.

to all

Thank you very much for your answers !!
Guess the 270 WSM or the 280 are the right caliber for my doing.
For Elk I will use 8x57 IS or .30-06 and for Moose 9,3 x 62 Mauser.
Coyote .22-250 and Whitetail & Mulee 280 or .270 WSM.

@ prosper: I agree to 100 % what you`re saying, I have a rangemaster (Leica ) and some good Scopes ( Zeiss and Swarowski ) but there are some differences between the Caliber, so I will find out what will the best for my doing. Of course I can shoot with my 8x57 IS or .30-06 a distance of 300 - 400 Meters but I wants to make sure not wounded and go for a clear and fast kill. In some situations you want shoot 300 Meters and in some situations you have to shot just 60 Meters like me today. So a flat trajcory is not a must but makes things easier.

Today I spotted a White- Buck 380 Meters away I didn`t shot, I got him a few hours later in a distance of only 62 Meters.
On his left behind leg somebody hit him in the morning. This guy must shoot to him so far away that he hits only his leg. Last week I saw the same thing.
So I guess people should doing more carefully and responsible with shooting to an animal for a clear and fast kill.

However......its my opinion to pay respect to the animal, guess those have also pain.

While I would agree that the 280 would fit the bill better, a new 270Win or WSM would be easier to buy off the shelf.

Doesn't seem to be a lot of gunmakers chambering the 280 these days, plus for the non-handloader the 270Win would be the easiest to get ammo for.

.

True enough. 270's just as good really. I just prefer the 7mm's...
