When I decided to get back pistol shooting again, I decided I wanted some kind of practical pistol forum. Since I'm not going to be competitive, revolvers don't seem much of a handicap, and since I'm on the topic of "not competitive", I think I'd like to use leather instead of fabric and nylon. Can anyone direct me to where I can purchase the correct equipment? This may be a difficult question because I'm not even sure in what part of practical revolver shooting that I should be investigating. I hope to attend a holster course in June so it is imperative that I begin sourcing what I require fairly soon. Any advice is appreciated.

If you want to shoot revolvers there are a few sports you can look into. Cowboy Action, PPC, IPSC and ICORE all come to mind. There will be different requirements for the holsters you can use so you might want to decide on the sport you want to try first and then go from there. No sense in buying a holster until you pick your game and check the appropriate rulebook.

Check with your local clubs to see what they are hosting. Some clubs have club level matches where club rules often permit a much wider variety of choices for equipment that can be used. Also check out what sort of league nights are being run in your area. Sometimes leagues permit new shooters to use non-sanctioned equipment to try out a particular style of shooting. It's also a great chance to talk to people and see what gear they are using and certainly someone in the group will have revolver experience.

Thanks for the p.m. glad it worked out

I user a biachi leather holster for my 686. I'm faster with that gun than my 45 STI 1911. (light loads, and very accurate and smooth handling gun)

The leather doesn't help much, but a nice holster is awesome. Feels nice, smells great, and will eventually wear to fit the gun perfectly. Still quite new even after a full season for pistol challenges.

I say go for it! Have fun. Good advice on checking holster requirements of discipline first though.
