Practice ranges

What do you mean by casual claybusting, is there some sort of presentation trap skeet and sporting clays doesn't allow you to do?

Sorry I can't help with Ontario ranges for you, but I'm curious as to what you are looking to do.

Trap, skeet and sporting clays are "shooting games"(for the lack of a better phrase), somewhat analogous to IPSC, IPDA, etc. I'm looking for a range to do some "plinking" (one clay at a time at my pace). IMHO, there's no point in playing shooting games until the basics(aiming, leading, etc) are mastered.

Also, my choice of guns does not allow me to do skeet/trap/etc. I only have a H&R single shot(won't be able to shoot doubles) and a mossberg 590A1(Nazi ranges won't allow barrels under 26"). I have no real interest, space, money for a dedicated SXS or O/U skeet gun.

Nazi ranges? Can you name one in Ontario where barrels under 26" are not allowed?

"A barrel length of 26” is allowed on our shooting range."

Don't know about you but I'd interpret that as "the minimum barrel length is 26 inches". However, if this is not the case, I apologize in advance and retract my previous statement.

Any of the shotguns you mention are okay for an informal round of trap at the Oshawa club, I'm sure that they would welcome you. Most clubs are only gonna let you shoot and make a mess in a spot meant for that mess ie: a trap or Skeet range.

They'd be okay at Galt too. I've shot skeet there with a 14" gun although I've been a member there for many years and they've grown accustomed to my, uh, eccentricities. Most weekends someone is there with a Benelli M4 or other tactical gun and it barely draws a second glance. But they will not permit a non-member to shoot on their own or separate from the fields. There is a lot of leeway granted for new shooters no matter what gun is being used and most squads will welcome a new shooter.
