Check this site out < www.garrettcartridges.com>. A very intresting read for those of you ever wondering about bullet weight, shape and velocity vs penetration. It was an eyeopener for me and I think some of you might be suprised. The slower the velocity the deeper the penetration.............read on. The 45-70 still lives on and in Alaska for the big bruins it's the choice personal protection for different gov't agencies.

Garrett is right, but they are selling a product and their product is pretty pricey, they sell heavily loaded, WFN cast bullets cartridges for the most part, something everyone could reload themselves for 1/2 the price.

Very interesting read. I won't feel I have too much gun at deer camp next year. And I won't listen to the talk about needing a fast bullet. Mine are loaded to 1450 fps.

if you go onto the cast boolits forum you will hear the same thing over and over. for penetration we have been going the wrong way for years. there analogy is,push on a vault door slowly and it will open, punch it with your fist and it won't open. faster you hit the more likely to break your hand. its just physics. one thing not often brought up is these heavy for caliber bullets usually have a high bc because of there long length which also helps cancel the need for speed.

First, penetration isn't usually everything. Second, when penetration is everything wet newspaper is a poor medium for testing solid performance. Third, in his tests in poorly chosen media, he shot flat nosed bullets against round nose to made his bullets look better. Fourth, his claims got beat to death 10 years ago.
