So a friend is selling their pre 64 (1960) winchester model 70 in a .270. Bluing is alright, has some wear and tear on the bolt and trigger guard etc, stock is nice shape however, they installed a “Herters recoil eliminator” aka muzzle brake. It appears the muzzle would have had been machined for the threads so this could screw onto, not to mention this rifle will be louder for the user too.
Would this lower the value of this rifle quite a bit? Any idea what to offer?
Thank you

As you could remove the brake and install a protective cap this should not reduce the price much, some people may actually like the brake. I would look around at other 70’s in the same condition and price it accordingly.

It hurts alright. Would say maybe $800

270 Win with wear isn't that rare to begin with and would think with some looking and patience $1100 is doable, for one that no one boogered up the muzzle on. Wouldn't personally pay more unless it was in very nice shape

Agree .... Bubba don't make guns worth more.

Not worth more than the selling price of the action and stock.
