hi.i need some input/opinions.i am looking at a pre 64 win in 300 H&H.metal, bore and rifling is very good, wood is about 80-85%.the guy selling it says it has been in his safe for over 25 yrs.he is asking1600.00.what do y'all think?thanks

Anything about what version of the rifle? Standard, Super Grade or? Still have its sights and front hood? $1600 might not be too out of line if it's unbuggered and in good shape. The 300 H&H is more sought after than some others. $1000-$1200 would be a steal. If you can get it for $1200 you're doing very well indeed.

They are a really nice rifle / cartridge combo. I wouldn't normally care for a 26" barrel but the balance on mine is fantastic. For that kind of money the bore and metal would have to be very, very good. Wood can be freshened up and sealed nicely however it sounds like a using rifle and not a collector based on the condition. Really depends on your use for it.

I forgot to mention that mine cycles even more smoothly when feeding a round from the magazine than when cycling on an empty chamber. They don't make 'em like they used to, even if the new ones are technically "better".

Recently picked up same, a 300H+H standard grade made in 1954, like new bore. Very good blue except floor-plate. Stock very good with original steel butt-plate. Original varnish peeling. Got it from a fellow I know well for $1,100.00 including a nice old full box of Winchester 220 gr. cartridges. I know I got a good deal. I foolishly let identical rifle go a few years ago for $1,500.00. Wont happen again.

I have one, great gun...for 1600 I would want it to be reallllyyy nice, but depends on how bad you want it.
For that kinda $ it should be as it left the factory, check the stock, has it been cut? it that the original butt pad? has the barrel been cut or recrowned? Is there any cold bluing? Are there any extra holes drilled in the action for some strange sight, (ask me how I know about that one!!!). Is the stock finish original or has it been redone.....for me, for 1600$ it better be darn close to perfect
My .02$

All depends on what you want.
A rare classic Winchester 300 H&H for 1600 dollars or a fresh out of the box Weatherby Accumark for the same money.

For 1600 dollars I'll take the Winchester every time.

If u have one out of the box for $1,600.00. I"ll take it from the box $2,200-$2,500.00

Last time I bothered to check WSS had them in std Wby calibers for about 1700 regular price.
The 3-378's and 338-378's tip out above two thousand.
There was also a short term sale about a year ago where they were under 1600 but limited choice of calibers.(south Edmonton store)
