pre 64 94s

Having had many "Pre" and "Post" 1894's and Model 94's apart over the years, I can atest to the quality of the early manufactured rifles. Machining beats stamping in lasting ability.

As far as I know all the Model 94s and 1894s came out of New Haven.


Winchester - after their acquisition of Cooey - assembled a cheap version of the Model 70 in Canada and sold it under the Cooey brand name. They also assembled the Model 2200 Shotgun -the Canadian version of the Model 1200 - in Canada using parts manufactured in the USA. Most other Canadian "Winchesters" -.22 rimfires and single shot shotguns -were Cooey models rebranded with the Winchester name.
 
Looked up the information again, seems the Texas plants were assembly not Manufacturers of the '94. Cobourg didn't start manufacturing 94's until '70 being the 1970 Commemorative. 1967 Canadian Commemorative was made in New Haven.

Cobourg manufactured 94's from 1970-1982 , though the Cobourg plant was sold in '79 (Source: The Cobourg Daily Star, Friday, November , 1979). Did lakefield make the Winchesters under contract until 1982? As the 1986 DUCKS UNLIMITED is listed as made in Canada as well.

Site changes with the "new" Winchester/Herstal corp. hard to find historical info.

No where is there any information of any changes in the 1963 model 1894 vs. 1964 model. Not a single change of any part has ever been noted....Oh, Chuck Hawks says it's so, so it must be, he even edited Wikipedia just to "prove" it.

As for serial numbers, all actions with serial numbers ending in 000 were collected and saved for special editions since the early 60's. Over ten years worth of collecting to ship an order of 250 to Italy in 1978 and again in 1980. ( European edition of 1000 produced and 500 actions shipped, no explanation of where the other 500 actions appeared from).

Be the First to acknowledge the significant change, the FIRST since 1964 , We'll make changes to Wikipedia with your insight and photos. 45 years after the fact, we might actually have the truth.
