Pre 64 model 70 .300 WBY MAG

I cannot add to Douglas's opinion because I have never had my hands on a new FN Winchester, but I have been really happy with any and all the pre-64s I've had.
One of my pet toys right now is a pre-64 that's been re-barreled to 256 Newton and it is a dandy shooter.
My only gripe regarding the old rifles is the fact that I think they are a bit on the heavy side..... or maybe I'm getting weaker in my old age ??

Haha Cardiac Care, so true. I'm curious CFBMI, why do you prefer the FN action? Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the the pre 64's have a one piece bolt as opposed to a two piece in the new one?

Don't pay him any mind...to him M70s are like wives...newer is better.

Coincidentally, we're on our 4th version of the M70 and Douglas is on his 4th wife. Hmmm.....

If one were to rechamber a Pre'64 30-06 the 308 Norma is the best choice. A bit shorter than the 300 Winny so it fits the mag better.
Pretty much the same speed. First custom Pre'64 I had done was a 308 Norma. Sold it.
Now I have an original 1950 in 30-06 and it will remain in 30-06.
