My cousin just inherited a pre64 model 94 serial 1336716. I checked the Winchester page añd it looks like it was made in 1945. Wood is ok and bluing is all worn off and a penny is required on the rear sight.

So, refinish? Or leave it as is? Will a refinish ruin it's value?

The rifle in that condition has virtually no collector value. It is just a shooter. Model 1994 Winchesters of that era, even in excellent condition, are not rally scarce, so just do with it what ever turns your crank.

You should see if it functions fine first, it may need some repairs done to it before you invest any time refinishing it. I'm one that prefers a shiny new looking gun over a well worn one. I'd say do the refinish as well

Looks like all good advice to me. Personally, I like a grey finish, as it reminds me of the history. If it could only talk... But as the others have said, it would be better off refinished from the state you have described.
