The tube magazine was full of dust bunnies, so I removed it and gave it a good cleaning yesterday

Now I'm having a heck of a time getting the magazine tube reinstalled on my 1962 vintage Win 94. I think its just an issue where you have to get the alignment of the tube just perfect for the magazine cap screw to catch and have the barrel band screws line up?

Right now I have the magazine cap screw in (without the spring and follower) and it seems to be sitting in the barrel hole but in particular, I cannot get the screw for the rear band to line up. Its just a hair off but its enough that it won't catch the threads.

Any tips the gurus can share?

It's not uncommon for the screw through the band to be bent slightly from recoil, etc. . Check and see if that is causing your problem. Lay the shaft of the screw on a flat surface and roll it and see if it has a hump any where along it's length.

Make sure the recess in the front of the receiver is clean and also that there are no dings or burrs on the end of the tube that goes into the receiver--sometimes helps the reassembly to just "break" the sharp outer edge of the mag tuble with a fine file or sandpaper.

I just put my 1954 Model 94 32 special back together after having it apart for some detailed cleaning, and initially I had a beyotch of a time getting my rear band screw to line up also. But I just rolled the tube mag a little and it worked right in there. But my rear Buck horn broke off. Now I have to replace it. Any one know if a special tool is needed to force off the sight mount and re mount a new one on the barrel? Sorry Mike to ask another question on your thread...

The rolling of the magazine tube is the hard part - once it sets into the receiver it does not want to budge. The fit is pretty tight in there requiring some light taps from my rubber mallet to seat the tube in so the hole in the barrel lines up with the magazine cap.

To get the buckhorn sight off, you need to get a brass (not steel!) punch and wack it out of the dovetail gently with a hammer. The brass punch should not mar the steel. Perhaps you will want to consider a receiver mounted peep sight if your rifle is already factory D/T for one like mine?

I'm putting a Williams FP receiver sight on mine after I go through and clean out the action. I will have my spare buckhorn sight but sorry I want to keep it.
