Pre-war and post war buttstocks are different and not interchangeable. . After the transitional models used up the pre-war receivers, the post war receivers changed the tang so the stock was easier to inlet where the tang slides into the top of the wrist area. . . The great depression was over and tradesmen demanded higher wages so Winchester devised cost saving methods. . The hammer spur was no longer checkered on the post war models just grooved from side to side. . it was the beginning of the end.
