If I EVER find ammo for my Mauser Broomy I intend to fire it

The bolt stop should be checked, yes?

Can new ones be purchased so one does not beat up the original bolt stop?

Who has (and will ship) Fiochi 7.63 Mauser ammo?

I checked and replaced my bolt stop, firing pin, firing pin spring, recoil spring and hammer spring. The bolt stop and firing pin were both in vg condition, I replaced them because they're original, and matching.

You should replace the springs, and carefully examine the back of the barrel extension to be sure there's no peening, cracking, or deformation behind the bolt stop slot.

I'm not sure where you can find boxes of Fiocchi ammo. I managed to locate 2 boxes from a private seller. I'm reloading for my mauser now.

You could try pulling the bullets from some TT ammo, and replacing the powder with a softer load of HP38 or similar.

re mauser

I was almost sure STARLINE carried .30 cases. Just out of curiosity could you not rework tokarov ammo and or .223 cases to your desired form. I was making my own tokarov cases until I came upon STARLINE:)

Jason Spencer at GUNCO in Ottawa uses a Broomhandle as his logo. He inspected my Lever Arms C-30 Mauser and pronounced it ugly but safe to fire. The ammo question is of course the critical ingrediant.

There is a Yahoo forum for Broomhandle owners. There are more similarities between the Tokarov and Mauser cartridges than there are differences. So pulling the bullets and reloading with much softer powder load was suggested as a reloading option. (Don't take my word on any of this reloading business - I'm just repeating what I remember reading.)

I'll suggest a new hammer spring and a new recoil spring.

Examine the slide-stop (little thingie that comes out the right hand side) look for cracks and degradation.

If this piece fails, you have a bolt/slide in the face.

Suggest firing it the first time with your face *NOT* directly in line behind the action. There's a tale of someone wearing the bolt in their cheek, and having some pretty nasty damage done.

Note, if you replace one spring, replace both, I think Sarco or E-gunparts should have them.
