Pre-primed cases in Lee Pro 1000 case feeder?

Has anyone tried this?

Any danger of ignition when dropping the cases into the tubes?

I'm, thinking of hand priming .223 cases (FL sized) and then running them through the press using the 3 positions for powder, bullet seating and factory crimp.

Did this for years. I full length sized and primed only on the first pass, no powder measure in station 2 and no die in station 3. You can fly right along not having to worry when the next failed primer install showed up and you would have to pull the machine apart and clean the powder up.

Then when I wanted to load, I put the powder measure in station 1 (spring activated), powder check in station 2 and seat/crimp in station 3.

Worked great until I could afford a better press, more time consuming but sometimes you have more time than money. As you get older it usually reverses you have more money than time,:D.
 
I had a Federal primer blow up in my Lee 1000 recently so I decided to pre-prime anytime I use Federal primers from now on. There is no issue using your Lee 1000 with pre-primed cases. Just make sure your primer tray/trough are empty and you push your decapper pin up.

That is pretty much the only way a lee 1000 for .223 works well IMO.

How hard is it to prep 1000 cases & prime them before you run them through the lee? I find it gives you that extra time to examine all your cases for defects etc. (which all bottlr neck cases require IMO) before you run them through.

I agree. I actually enjoyed hand priming the cases. I am not sure I will do this for all my priming as I have the Lee 1000 priming system running smoothly but I definitely don't mind "pre-priming".

I'm just getting my Pro 1000 priming "in the grove" but I'm also looking forward to hand priming. In my case, I've got a bunch of .223 cases with crimped primers that I need to clean up and figure hand priming might be a good way to "feel" if the primer pockets are properly prepped.

After reloading 500 rounds in under one hour on two separate occasions, I am sold on prepriming for all my brands of primers now. :D
