Getting closer every day you know.
We took the atv's up the 12Km trail to moose camp. The bush was MUCH drier than we expected, givven our recent rain.
Painted the floor and ceiling. Nice, now we'll be able to see.
Went for an hour long walk, spotted two yearling cows. The first would have been an easy shot, 50 yards, and trotting away on an almost broadside course. The second, I jumped from her bed. She took off like a horse at full gallop into the thick stuff. I doub't if I'd have got a shot.
Other than that, the grouse population is exploding around the camp, as are rabbits. I almost stepped on a baby grouse that took off squeeking when I got too close.
A few trees down, cleared, normal stuff. My cousin dumped his atv. Trails are very rough, the best parts rate only about 10 Kph. Many places you could walk faster.
Picked up a big painted turtle shell near where I crossed the big beaver meadow.
Hawk was screaming, must have been close to the nest.

Get out there and scout. Never know what you'll find.

We wait until August for bowhunting draw results then we know who is coming up to hunt. I plan on going up Sept staying until freeze up, that gives me enough time to scout for the bowhunt and calf gun hunt. Last year I stayed 28 days and went back 12 days to close camp. We have lots of moose just no tags.

its a 22 hour drive to our area.......i,ll pass on the check up
Sucks to be you :p

Actually, even when we used to hunt six hours and a long boat ride away, we still managed an occassional check up.
Your camp, as I understand it, is a tent, so was ours at that point.
6 hours by road, and I think it was three by boat.
Fishing was excellent in the summer.
At todays gas prices though, I can see why you don't want to drive so far.
