While doing some serious scouting before the rifle opener in some year old cuts we found three dead moose( with help from ravens).... All finds were in different areas... We found arrows in two, and one was too stinky for further investigation....Though we did find some fresh sighn, this has been the most discouraging pre-season scouting that I can recall....

3 years in a row now back in Ontario (WMU 42). 2 cows the last 2 years and a bull this year. Pretty disgusting. They were all reported and not much came of it as far as I know.

Always sad news to lose animals. Unfortunately it happens more often with the bow than the gun. Bangflops are rare with the bow, & tracking skills are often put to the test. One of the hunters in our gang shot a cow from 30 yards in the paunch. We tracked it for over a mile. Literally small drops of blood every 50ft or longer. It never bedded down & we never recovered it. Sorry you had to find this in your hunting area! Some jurisdictions make you mark your name & address on your arrow. AFAIK Ontario doesn't require it. I'm on the fence on this one. In some way it would be nice to ID slob hunters, but could also turn into a witch hunt. JMHO.

Very good idea!

Don't be so quick to blame bowhunters.

Well since two positivaly had arrows in them, and bow season is just over it only makes sense....All of the moose were no further than 200yds from a logging road within a cut...

I know how hard it can be to track a moose with full foliage as it was in bow season, but these where in cuts where one would think it would make things much easier..
Being a bow hunter myself, and knowing animals don't drop where hit, I don't bow hunt in the evenings, where I would have no time to track before dark...Unlike hunting shows I have NO desire to eat an animal I have to wait until the next day to recover...
