Took my wife and 2 year 4 month old son out for a little pre-season scouting yesterday here are some pictures... :)

Jaiden asked me to let/help him tell you his story so here he is.

Hi everyone my name is Jaiden, see I've got my hunting knife that used to be my older brother's and my Daddy let me use it for the first time he was very careful and watched/helped me use it properly/safely everytime I took it out of it's sheath and yes that is my cap gun in my pocket... ;)

See my new hunting boots that I have on this is the first time I got to wear them in the mountains Daddy water proofed them before we went out. Daddy is cutting down trees that have grown in the way of a small grassy hill side that we see bears on all of the time.

My older brother shot his first bear on this knoll it was 6' long.

Oh my... my Daddy's knife is just a little bit bigger than mine...

Here's Daddy and me checking out a serpentine rock he thought he saw some gold in it but there wasn't, Daddy is carrying his Marlin 1895GS 45-70 loaded with 525gr Beartooth WFNGC's.

Here we are eating wild blueberries you can see them on the bushes all around us mmmm they were good.

Here we are walking back to the truck Daddy shot a 3 X 4 blacktail/mule deer hybred here a couple of years ago and he wanted to see if there were any new tracks.

There is a big deer hanging out in the area again Daddy has shot 3 really nice bucks here there is also a lot of black bears here there was bear poop everywhere and the blueberries were ripe and the entire hill side was covered in them.

and see my doggy her name is Moki...

Jaiden asked to so say "thanks for the comments guys" and I have to say he is already a great outdoorsman...

I have thru my life figured out that you either have the love of the great outdoors and it's wonders in your heart or you don't.

I can already see that he has this love in him he is constantly talking about going fishing and bear hunting and now that I am talking deer he is into hunting with me and shooting his first deer.

I mean it is amazing how intense he is to be out in the bush...

He runs around the house with his Red Ryder BB gun and yes he doesn't know what a BB is yet... :)

When he gets a little bit older I have a T/C Contender carbine with a 16.5" 22LR match chambered barrel the rifle is definately small enough but I need to come up with a youth stock for him still.

My other son is now 24 years old and just graduated from colllege with a degree in phycology he has now shot a grizzly and was in on my grizzly hunt last year shot his first grouse appr 18 years ago his first deer & black bear 7-8 years ago in other words it is awesome to have the opportunity again to walk this little guy thru the same things.

Only difference now is I know a lot better and will hopefully do an even better job.

I just heard him talking to his mommy in the other room he was saying something about bear poopies and the bears didn't flush... :D

Good stuff camp cook!

If I don't take my boy out fishing often enough, he lets me know with subtle hints like this:

He was about 18 months in this shot. Sure makes a guy feel great when his children find some of the same passions as he has!

That's super cute....

And I totally understand your feeling good comment.

I've been saying it this way "Holy cow have I got a boy"....

In today's world of text messaging, computers and video games not enough kids get introduced into the real world and the outdoors. Great job starting him that early his appreciation for the wild places will only grow from there.

I can't wait for my daughter to get a bit older she loves fishing and being outdoors. Your son looks like he loves everything all ready!

Her first Rock Bass.

That is a cute little girl you must be proud... :)

When you say rock bass is that salt water if it's salt I call them rock cod.

Jaiden just came to me this morning he had his cap gun in his hand asking if we could go find more bear poopies and then he added "bears no flush toilet"...

No it's a fresh water fish more often found in small ponds and in marinas, small lakes. Good to eat if big enough and cooked right. My daughter watches all the hunting shows with me and has learned how to use duck and goose calls, we bought her a Camo sweater from Wal-Mart and the camo is little deer patterns and she loves it so much.

Well guys Jaiden has been up to his getting out into the outdoors again and has a bit more of his life in the great outdoors to share with you so here he is again... :)

Hi everyone my Daddy decided that it was time for me and him to go camping/hunting for the first time without Mommy if you remember I am now 2 years 5 month's old.

Every other time we have camped Mommy has been along but yesterday Daddy decided to take me out for my first deer/grouse hunt by ourself this was the first time in my life that Mommy wasn't around for the night so it was a very special trip for Daddy and me.

We left Thrusday morning Sept 10/09 and got to where we were going to hunt the east side of Manning Park @ 12:00 noon.

After exploring for a bit because it had been about 4 years since Daddy had been in here and there were new logging cuts everywhere Daddy made a quick camp it wasn't the nicest spot but Daddy said this looked like a very good spot for deer.

We set up our bed in the back of the truck 2 old army stretchers and because it was so sunny and warm Daddy decided that we didn't need to set up a tarp.

We only went out for one night and came home this afternoon it was so much fun to go hunting and Daddy even shot 3 grouse he was worried that I might not like seeing grouse being shot and cleaned but I thought it was really cool.

We drove about 80 miles on the ATV in 2 days we even went through several miles of an old forest fire that burnt about 2 years ago it was really weird all the trees were still standing but there were no needles and the bark was mostly gone.

Anyway we are back home now and Daddy has put the ATV and all of the gear away already, here are a few pictures.

Daddy keeps the T/C Contender carbine in 22LR under the front cover in the storage area the other rifles are his Rem 700 LSS 375RUM & his T/C Contender carbine in 375JDJ.

He told me that he is only going to hunt with his 375 cal rifles this year I asked him why and he said becasue he can... :D

Great pics and great stories there Jaiden. Make sure that you keep getting your Dad to take you out hunting and I want to see pics of the first bear that you and your Dad shoot together. Take care Jaiden and Dad also...sincerely....Dennis....:)

Here is a kind of funny side note when it was time to go to bed (10pm :)) I had to get him into his pajamas, he started screaming that I had taken his knife off him when I took his pants off and he wanted it on so I had to take the belt off of his pants and strap it onto him then he wanted his hiking boots back on...

They were very dirty so I had to say no to the boots it took about 1/2 hour to get him calmed down after that.

On the way home he still had his knife on when we went into Tim Hortin's for a mug up it was hilarious the looks he was getting from all of the people some thought it was super cute and others were safety nazi's you could see that they were very upset that he still had the knife on.

I thought it was funny because how do you report a little 2 1/2 year old kid for having a larger knife in a public place the safety nazi's were stumped and had to just accept that he had it on.

One old lady asked why he had it on I said we were coming home from a hunting trip and he is completely safe with it and would only remove it from the sheath if I oked it I continued saying and don't worry when he grows up he will not be one of the kids that mugs little ladies on street corners he will be one of the kids that stands up to the punks that do because he is being brought up the way all kids should be.
