specifically does anyone have one of the asbestos lined ones and care to share a picture. I cant find a pic on line and would love to see one.
 
I have a commercial BSA with the patented upper and middle bands you are referring to. Other than the patent info, they look like any other band on the exterior. I don't have photos of the interiors but, if you do a search for a turn of the century BSA catalogue, you should be able to find pictures and a (glowing) description. Apparently, they were well represented at Bisley. Let me know if you cannot find it and I will try to get pics for you.
 
Yeah, the illustrations dont really do it. I am curious to try and see what type of asbestos they used, for that a colour pic would be best.
 
The asbestos is a whitish natural asbestos color, and appears to be felted or matted. The cuts in the bands are about 1\2 the thickness of the band. When new, the asbestos would be a little proud of the inner surface of the band. The asbestos inserts on mine are still a little proud.
