Just took posession of a Pre'64 M70 action that I had committed to over a year ago....

It's a 30-06 action that's had the boltface opened up to take a .532 magnum case...darn...

what to heck to build on this puppy?.....

something "classic"?....tough to do with a .532 bolt face:mad:

maybe a 338 Win Mag.....300 Win Mag?.....416 Taylor?....458 Winny?...ouch:eek:

Anyone have a Pre64 M70 barrel?..like a 338 or a 300 Win kicking around?....maybe a 270 Weatherby would be "classic" enough....I'm sure a few M70's were rechambered to this from 270 Win...years ago...

will a barrel from a new Model 70 Classic fit this old girl??

Anyone have a stock for it?

.300 H&h

I have a pre-64 in .300 H&H and it is a wonderful rifle and caliber. The "Super .30" feeds like butter, is accurate, and does everything you should ask of a .30 caliber. Plus it it just more charming that a .300 Winchester.

a CRF Classic barrel will fit a pre-64, just needs indexing for the extractor cut and headspacing.

The pre-64's used different mag boxes and followers for the '06 and the 264-338 mag families. It will work but feeding won't be perfect.

I have a real beater stocks if you just need something to hold it in

thanks for all the replies and suggestions...but I put the action up for sale...that's all I need is one more project:rolleyes: I have three actions here already and not enough time to screw barrels into them,..let alone look for stocks:rolleyes:

The problem isn't just with the boltface..... what was done to the magazine rails? Are they screwed up so they don't feed standard cases...?.......possibly won't feed magnums either.....?

I would try to see what the magazine will feed. The bolt nose could be closed up and a new extractor fitted for the 06 case if it still feeds the 06 case.

Pre 64 action

I'm in the same boat as Rembo,I have a pre 64 M70 in 300H&H.It is an OLD one, with the safety at the rear of the bolt shroud, but it looks like it should clean up OK.What the H**l should I do with it?Can the safety position be changed,as it would interfere with a scope in it's present location.HELP!! Mur.

I was going to take pics but I sold it yesterday....and for information's sake the bolt face was perfect and well done, the feed rails had not been touched, the action was perfect, no pits or defects. Beautiful action ready for a barrel and bluing. It had two extractors, the original '06 extractor and a new one for the magnum cases...the new owner likes it...:)

I saw what looked like an unfired pre 64 m70 in 300 hh last week. The guy wanted $1595 for it.

Nice gun, but too steep for me. By the serial, I figured it was a 1962 or 63.
