I just notified that McGowen barrels can supply prechambered/threaded barrels for the Marlin XL7. These rifles use a barrel nut install just like a Savage so a swap is just as straightforward.

I think the nut will use the same wrench (maybe someone can confirm for me)

With the sale going to till the end of the year, great time to pick up some new fun for these Marlins.

Typo. now corrected. Should be XL7

Blygy, should be very similar to the Savage and Rem. I don't have an exact thread dimension though.

The Marlin XL7 is almost a direct knock off of the Savage design. It should have all the strengths of the floating bolt head and ease of barrel swap. Not much after market for it yet but I would expect to see thing like triggers soon enough.

The big differences are cosmetic in the rear of the bolt shroud and handle. I also like the way to mount the internal mag box vs the slot press in set up of the Savage.

But since I prefer a det mag overall, this point is moot.

The response to the Marlin has been positive and this is just another way to get people trying more things with their toys.

I read a thread on the Savage Shooters site where someone fitted a pre-fit savage barrel on Marlin XL7 action. I assume they must be same size and thread!
 
There is an extensive write up on this Marlin XL 7 rifle in the newest edition of Rifle magazine. I haven't read it yet, but it is a 5 page spread so it should be fairly detailed. FS
