Precision 308 ?hunting? bullet

As has been stated, the 165 gr Hornady Interbond, Nosler Accubond or Barnes TSX would be your best choices. I have been using the 165gr Interbonds for the last two years and they are working really well, very accurate, and cheaper than the other two that I have mentioned.

You won't go wrong with any of these.

I have used the 180 gr SSTs for the past three years, and like Jerry, have found them to work fine on game, especially at long range.

They are very accurate, and less frangible than Ballistic Tips. That is a good thing. :D

For long range I'm using the Swift Scirocco II. From my old 300WM they shot very very close to Sierra BTHP. They usually hold around 80% of the bullet weight. I've used them on everything from Coyote to Moose.

This last year I switched to Swift A frames. They actually fly quite well for the style of bullet but do drop a little faster than the Scirocco II. However, the penetration and weight retention is even better than my old Moose standby the Nosler Partition.

Try some different stuff and see what your rifle likes the best.

Good luck

I have and will continue to use Gamekings out of my .264 Win Mag and .338 Lapua, they have performed well at closer and longer ranges on Antelope, Deer and Moose. BTW don't bother with Scenars they will go right through the animal like a laser and leave a .308" hole behind them.

If you don't want to use Gamekings or they don't work for you try the Nosler Accubonds. I use these in my .300 WBY and .300 Win Mag again with fantastic results.

Here is an example of on taken out of a moose from a couple years back. IIRC, it was about a 200yd shot and the 180 gr bullet had 76% weight retention:

The Sierra 165 BTHP Gameking is a very good bullet at the 308's velocities. They will hold together and reward you with excellent accuracy. I have never had a failure to anchor an animal with a Sierra. Try to limit the use of the "hard" Premium bullets due to the 308's modest velocity.

I have had great success with the Hornady Interbond in the 308 win (165 gr). Reliable expansion that you would expect from a bonded bullet with polymer tip, good accuracy and very affordable compared to most of the premium hunting bullets! I think that interbonds give you the flexibility to shoot only one bullet from your rifle rather than shooting a hunting bullet and target bullet which is what I found myself doing when I was shooting a great deal of barnes bullets.

The other bullets mentioned are all very good, but just aren't as economical as the interbonds in my opinion.

Wow, you aint kidding $28 us for 20, man it'd cost 150us just to work up a load and have a few left to shoot. Forget actually practising at LR with the load ;)
