While sighting/breaking in my carbine-after firing about 10 rounds it would fail to fire-basically the trigger would be like it was locked even though it was in the safe position-the hotter the rifle got the more it would do it to the point where i could cycle thru all 4 rounds in the mag and not have the primer struck at all-could this be the trigger giving issues? or a problem with the bolt?-the accutrigger is still at the factory setting-and yes everything is cleaned totally every 20 rounds-only 43 rds thru it so far.

make sure the trigger remains cocked when you close the bolt.

sounds like the sear is skipping and falling when you close the bolt. The trigger will then feel like it is a rock cause it can't move.

close the bolt slowly and feel the sear catch the trigger. Can also push the trigger forward and hold it there. if this stops the issue, then you just need to increase the trigger spring pressure - turn spring IN - until it keeps the trigger in place for the sear to engage.

Also, look at the trigger to make sure the lip the sear catches on isn't broken.

Yup...what he said, you just need to increase spring tension

Maybe re-read the manual I just got my first savage from juanvaldez and in the manual it says closing the bolt hard with a light target trigger can cause it to misfire. Mine has the super light weight trigger maybe your tactical carbine doesnt have this. I'd go back and look at the manual because I recall seeing something in there that explains exactly whats happening to you.

Still just looking at it... I was suposed to go today to shoot it but something came up and I couldn't... hopeing to get out this week to try it out and see if it can really post those .88" three shot groups at 500 yards like I read about in an artical on this rifle where someone did some testing on it... I have that same load data they used so I hope it works that well for me if it does it will be simply amazing :D

I'll pm you a pic all mounted up and ready to go... I did all my reloading for it already too :D

Can't wait its my first savage and I want to prove all those internet rumors true that these things can really shoot...

Ah what the hell I'll post it here sorry for hijacking your thread, my big leupold looked massive on remingtons not so much when you have a 30" x 1" barrel

Well if you don't like the bbl don't forget I have a .308 match McGowen Tube in large shank, just begging for some action

I am sure this rifle will exceed expectations for my causal plinking... I am curious how to swap barrels because savage is suposed to be "easy" compared to remington... apparently anyone can do it.

For a first time out that really sucks! I hope you will keep us up to date on the cause of this. The only trouble I ever had was caused by me pulling the side of the trigger prior to compressing the accurelease fully. Hope its a easy fix!

well-talk about embarrassing in front of the father-in-law...I got this cool rifle-should be able to do all this with it...let's go out and try it-you try it...wait...it won't shoot....try+try again....think about throwing it into the dugout to end my pain...arrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh.:(

for action screw torque, just hand snug is fine. One area that likely needs attention is the bedding. The Accustocks are a great idea but not so great as a product. There tends to be alot of space under the rear contact point which can allow the action to bend - suspended by the front action bolt and the rear tang.

Bent actions is not good. There are other problem areas that just depends on what the CNC was doing that day.

Bed them - will make a big difference in consistency. If you need help, I do bed these stocks.

did you check the trigger spring?

I bet increasing spring tension will resolve your issue.

I adjusted the trigger to increase the tension-reinstalled in teh stock and torqued as per the manual and now the safety doesn't work at all. The dugout is getting closer all the time.

Loosen the rear action bolt and see if the problem goes away. Or better yet, take the action out of the stock to ensure it functions properly.

Bedding, or the lack thereof, would be at fault.

Getting it properly bedded would be a good solution.

Get a new rifle supplied. Should not have to put up with this! Savage Inc. to the rescue;)

I had the same problem with mine when I got it. I was closing the bolt too hard and fast which the manual says not to do, but habits are hard to break.

I sent mine to Mysticplayer and had him time the bolt and bed it. This, in addition to me adjusting the way I loaded it, has solved the problem and I am very happy with it.
