A buddy at the range on the weekend had a really interesting tool that I had never seen before. He took a once fired case from my rifle, inserted into a collar, threaded another piece into the collar, and then using a vernier scale on the exterior of the inner sleeve, he was able to tell, relative to SAMMI spec, where the shoulder in MY chamber was. The idea being that you set your dies to bump the shoulder back only a couple thou more than this so that you minimise workhardening the brass.
I was so taken by the device that I forgot to ask him who made it or where he got it. It was about 3" long, and gun metal black. I have searched a bunch of the obvious manufacturers websites but to no avail.
Anyone have any idea what I am talking about, or more importantly, where I could get one?
