Precision rifle cleaning kits

Hey guys I have always cleaned my long guns and pistols using the multi piece aluminum cleaning rods or pull through cables/bore snakes.

I know the carbon fiber one piece rods seem to be popular but what else should I pick up? Is a bore guide really necessary? I'm going to be breaking in my new t3x ctr in 308 and figure go big or go home and do it right.

Lastly I should ask where is the best place to buy this stuff here in Canada?
 
A bore guide it a good thing to use especially on a precision rifle. Proper fitting patches and what ever bore cleaner that suits your fancy. Usually available at any sporting goods or gun shop, Cabela's, WSS and any independent shop, rarely see anything decent at places like Cambodian Tire. I have several different makes and they piss me off cause they all seem to use different threads, get a good supply of brushes and a good jag tip. Dewey, and Parker Hale are the 2 i use most. Some time ago I went to a fabric shop and bought several yards of cloth of the type patches are made of, I can cut whatever size I need as well as larger pieces for other cleaning, it was dirt cheap compared to bought patches.
 
After reading much on the subject

I went with Dewey bore guide, one piece rod, parker hale style jag, nylon brushes (no brass) all purchased at prophet river here
For solvents, i went with wipeout products (patch-out + accelerator)

I can give a real quick pass of wipeout for carbon.
Or let soak with accelerator applied prior for complete copper removal.

Edit : they don't seem to have restocked on 30cal stuff since i purchased

I picked up an Otis Elite kit on sale a few years ago so that I could service many rifles with one kit. I wouldn't want to get stuck purchasing high quality rods and bore guides for each gun. I'll admit for cleaning stubborn build ups when the JB Bore paste comes out, a rod is the only way to go.
 
Ive always used a Dewey rod and bore guide on all my rifles regardless if its a target or hunting rig. I also prefer using a nylon brush vs the bronze ones...less wear.

After a lot of research on this myself I ended up going with a Tipton Carbon Fiber Rod and the Tipton Bore-Guide kit+ Brass Jag, Bore mops.
Solvent is Hoppe's #9
General Cleaning/Lubrication is Birchwood Casey Synthetic Gun Oil

Cabela's typically has First Responder sales which is when I got most of my supplies...

I got OTIS elite kit too
Love it
I clean 22s, pistols, shotguns, semi auto rifles with it

For my first precision rig, i didn't want to risk damaging the troat or the crown, as i will be pushing .308 to it's max distances.
Dewey kit + wipeout seemed to make more sense than OTIS for that specific application
 
I will ask this as it will serve the OP as well,
What do you guys use to clean the chamber? Since bore guide obviously doesn't get any chamber cleaning done..
