I just saw some "strange" equipment on a precision rifle.
A bubble level mounted on the scope and a angle indication. What are the function and purpose for these equipment?

when you start shooting at distance any amount of cant in the rifle will hinder proper tracking for making corrections so if your always level then the scope should track your adjustments

The bubble level is to let you know when you've got the rifle "canted" to one side. This affects where the round will hit. In "Canadian Bisley Shooting- An Art And A Science, author Desmond Burke has chapters on the effects of canting your rifle.
Google "canting a rifle" and you'll get lots of websites that'll answer your question. Here's the first one that pops up for me:

Thanks for asking this question. You reminded me I'm on the lookout for a small level suitable for my scope.

Thanks for the replies.
Has anyone seen this style of scope level? I do not want to use the kind that mounts on top of the scope as I have to lift up my head to see it.
This style can be read by my left eye.

The level on my NF is similar, it folds to the side when not in use.
I think it is a Nightforce product ??

I have seen the US Optics one. It is sticking out a bit too far for me. Plus, I like the white line marking the centre of the bubble.

If you ant to the right, which is the norm for a right handed shooter, the bullet will strike to the right, and a bit low. The longer the range, the bigger the problem. Also, if making a big wind change, the cant will cause the strike to be higher or lower.

A bubble level allows the rifle to be the same for each shot. Most target rifle shooters have a bubble built into their front sight.

They don't ship to Canada, but if you have a pal in the States, get one of these from Horus Vision . . .

I put one on my .243, but I'm too cheap to get a second one for my .308 due to the 34 mm scope tube.

Horus Vision has a dealer in Canada now. It is ### International Inc in Spruce Grove, AB.

Caninting is a bigger problem if it is done inconsistently. Most rifle levels... aren't. If you use a supported firing position such as a bipod, I simply align the crosshairs with the top of the target fram and lock it down. Canting with an unsupported rifle is another matter entirely.

I agree canting is a bigger problem even at 300 yd (when compared to 100 yd). Hence, the Horus device achieves 2 tasks with one setup.

I have a 34mm scope tube body and a proprietary QD scope mount - so I'm screwed in terms of finding a compatible level, right?

I am not sure what is a proprietary QD scope mount but when I was talking to ### - they can sell me a 34 mm TPS ring to mount my Horus device. I decided to go with 30 mm ring instead. I am guessing some other expensive scopes like S&B or US Optic uses 34 mm tube so 34 mm ring is available out there.
Give ### a shout. Joe was very helpful.

I read somewhere that the bubble levels weren't all that level themselves. Have any of you verified that the bubble level you have indicates true level?

By putting against a carpenter level, the Horus device seems level to me. However, I will be mouting the device on the scope tube using a scope ring so I am going to get a gunsmith to level everything out for me.
Now, with that said, assuming the final mounting is off by 1 degree, as long as they are always 1 degree off (i.e/ not moving), I can adjust my scope or aim to compensate.
I know someone has mounted the level on a scope rail, and the rail is not perfectly level. But the rail does not move so he is shooting just fine.
