So the competition I shot this weekend really brought the fact that my scope is a limiting factor in my shooting. This weekend, at the Petawawa shoot, I can honestly say it hurt me. I'd like to get a new scope, but I can't afford to blow up the bank. It looks like there are lots of options in the sub 1200$ range, and tonnes of options in the above 2700$ range but almost nothing in the middle.

I'm looking for something in the 1700$ range, exposed turrets, FFP and Mil adjustments/ It's for longer range shooting on a precision rig, so something in the 6-24 range works well (a little more or a little less is fine). can anyone make a suggestion? The only thing I'm finding in that price range is the sightron, and I've never been able to get down behind one to look.

I just picked up a Burris XTR II, SCR Mil, FFP, Illuminated, 34mm tube, 5-25x50, Zero Stop, 10 mils per turn, 90 MOA vertical adjustment.

VERY Happy with it so far, it is mounted on .308, I will see how it tracks over time.

Other options around the $1500 p.p would be Bushnell Elite Tactical , Sightron

I'd never really thought of Burris, for some reason, in my mind I've always thought of them as low end.

Sightron SIII is a great option in that price range. Last time I checked, FFP was available in 24X. If you want 32X (what I run) it's SFP. I shoot at known ranges so don't need FFP. I wanted the magnification :)

Burris has Forever Warranty. If you check snipershide there are some pretty positive reviews. The tracking on these scopes is spot on. Glass is probably as good or equal to Sightron or Bushnell Elite. I guess it's the difference between spending 1600 or 4000 . I myself cannot afford to have multiple Rifles all topped with S&B or Vortex Razor II or T.Theta.

If I was shooting a Magnum I would probably opt for Nightforce or S&B. I am confident XTR II will be fine atop a .308 rifle.

Here is a couple threads on scope tracking tests and 10 page thread on Burris XTR II SCR reticle.

BURRIS XTR 4-20 MIL/MIL:

Controls and finish:#turrets on this sucker were heavy and tight. they had solid clicks but took alot of force to turn. might be good, might be bad depending on how you look at it. i didnt mind it. all the other controls moved adjusted as intended. the markings seemed easy to read and see for me. i really like the 4-20 range on this scope. i wish more people offered it

.Parallax:#no issues, tuned out easily. nice clear parallax free image.

Glass:#honestly i have really nearly zero experience with a burris magnified optic. this one honestly impressed me or maybe i wasn't expecting as much. either way the glass seemed on par to my eyes with optics costing much more.

#Reticle: this scope had the g2 mildot. not my first choice but certainly usable. it subtended and overlay was right on. no cant precieved .heavy and dark.Tracking:#dont be pissed...it was right on. nothing to report. they got er' figured out.

Final grade: i aint kicking this thing outta bed. i got to give an A just for what it is at its price point.#

I have an ERS and it is a real winner from a value perspective. It may not have the best of everything but it is pretty darn good overall, it consistently rates well on reviews and can be had around the $2,300 mark.

If you are in Calgary (or area you can take a look through mine). Bushnell is also coming out with their LRHS line (3-18X44 if my memory is good) and it looks like a winner to and in that price range you seek.

Final piece of advice would be that it looks like the economy has finally hit everybody and there are some good deals on the EE.

Sightron IIIs are really good scopes. The 8-32 x 56 is the gem, but it is SFP.
I have Nightforce, S&B and Sightron on precision rigs. Leopolds on hunting rifles.
For the price Sightron III's are an excellent choice.
They have a 6-24 x 50 FFP as mentioned above.

The scope that you need to consider is the Bushnell Tactical Elite, with the 34mm tube.

There were a lot of them at the Petawawa shoot, and they are a very popular scope in the US PRS shooting.

Tough, great reticle, accurate adjustments, nice turrets, good glass...best bang for your $$$.

You will not be disappointed.

If you're looking at Bushnell's, make sure you looking at the 34mm tubes, for the sake of elevation range. They have the 4.5-30XRS that fits that bill. I got mine for about 1700$ on sale at Wholesale Sports, and it's little brother 3.5-21 for about 1200$.

I like mine. It's not quite a NF or S&B, but it's pretty close, and a lot less $. When the XRS is full price, about 2200$, you're approaching ATACR price range, so that has to be weighed out.

Sightron seems to be good value, and I think the vortex offerings are too. The Razor's are in NF price range, but everything up to that is in your budget range.

Keep an eye out on the EE's. Be careful you don't get hosed with a private deal. Scams are out there!!! The EE is quite safe, but others can be a minefield!!

Good luck!!

Where did you buy your burris?

I would go with the Sightron model S 25007 SIII SS 6-24X50 LRFFP/MH
This scope is $1369.00 plus taxes and shipping at Hirsch Precision.com or you can also call Jerry at MysticPrecision.com for a quote.
