Precision scope under $1000

I have an Athlon Argos G2 8-34x56 FFP-MOA-iLL that is great except for the limited Vertical Adjustment - only ca 45 TOTAL MOA. I needed about 20 MOA on a rail to easily zero at 100 and need to reduce to 20x to get 175-yds zero on the reticle. The reticle has 'numbered' MOA every 4-th bar of the tree, which helps in holds for varying distances and wind corrections. Much easier than having to 'count' the bars to adjust holds. The Alpha-numerics are for illustration, NOT actually on the reticle and alternatively there is a MIL reticle available. PS-'Other' Athlon scopes have a better adjustment range but few have the higher mag.

Sounds like it might be worth picking up a canted rail and some Burris adjustable rings if you haven’t already

Right, I got the Burris XTR insert-set and a 30* A419 rail. At present I have it set up with 20* "final" with the Burris adjustment inserts to get the 175. If I ever get a longer range to use I can change to 30* or more.

Have ya had a chance to go try er out yet?
Mounted and bore sighted and ranged assorted neighbors rooflines from 80 Yards to 300 yards and for all intents, its equal if not a hair nicer glass than the Match Pro... but really, hard to tell the difference. I dont shoot past 600, so I don't know if any weaknesses will show up with my usage. But, @ $899 and the EP5 @$699.. meh... depends in how far you need to see. Someone had mentioned the Midas Tac, which is a great scope.. but I don't know if its $400-$500 better (based on retail selling $)

Tasso pronghorn 3-9 is supposed to be going on sale at princess auto next week. Don’t remember the sale price but they are 99.99 regular so it will be cheaper than that lol

In all honesty, I do have a working rifle that has never had a scope of its own and I have had one of those scopes before and it was for sure decent for hunting

My match pro ed came in today and I messed around with it at the house a bit, it seems pretty nice. I’m waiting on a few pieces for my chassis to show up before I can go shoot with it

Just saw this thread and I see you bought a scope. I hope you enjoy it. :)

FYI, during a rimfire PRS match you might settle to not going beyond 14-16x. Use the extra magnification when testing ammo at 200+ yards.

Thanks jimbo! Feel free to throw a recommendation out for the next guy to come along looking for the same thing.

When I was in your shoes and with a similar budget and short list, I went with the Athlon Helos. $830 seems to be the regular advertised price and it focuses to a short 10 yds. I can dryfire at home without needing an extra lens thing.

Seems to work well.

These are garbage if you want precision. I just gave one away. Optics are terrible, tracking is iffy, no parallax adjustment. These are not the Tascos of the 1980's.

I am exceedingly happy with my RITON scopes, going on three years I have one on my 6.5 x 55 varmint rifle it is I believe 4-16 x 44. I put another on my precision .22, a 6-24 x 55. Both are only 1 inch tubes, and I love them both. I spent less than $500 each.
