Precision semi auto options, help please

As stated in the original post I am willing to re stock/re barrel. Just wondering if the Belgian browning long trac is a good starting point. You have obviously stated your opinion so thanks but many others don't agree. If you read the first post you will see that I am aware that this is not a turn key thing. I am willing to have the gun worked on, mainly happy someone has proven it can be done and now I will either buy their gun or get them to help me build what I want. Unless someone can suggest a better candidate. Than the Belgian bar I am looking at. Open to any semi auto in 7mm mag or larger.

Well, I still have Win mod 100 that can shoot better than majority bolt actions (3/4" at 100m) but is not reliable enough to use it as a hunting rifle.
My 3006 BAR is super reliable but accuracy not as good, double that of my Winchester, but enough to get it used in the woods quite often.
Also my BAR mag lenght is only 3-5/16" so the use of heavy VLDs is out of the question.
I am sure that BAR with heavy target barrel is the best action for the kind of a rifle we are talking about but rebarreling and restocking will be expensive, at least $3500-$4000.
IMHO 308NM would be much better choice than 300WM for this project.
bc shredder, god luck in your search for willing gunsmith, it will not be easy to find one.
 
You really need an AR platform rifle if you are going for semi auto precision, but then you can't hunt with it. I wouldn't use my LAR 8 for bush hunting, too damn heavy.



Mine is pretty precise with repeatable sub MOA accuracy.

I'm just weird. I like weird, cool ####. I built a harley that's as fast as most sport bikes cause it seemed like a cool idea to me. All my buddies said it couldn't be done. It's done I turned my 76 chevv 2500 pickup from a long box reg cab into a crew cab with a 5" box full bare frame build up with custom suspension 36" tires and 450hp. I get an idea of something cool and different in my head and I can't shake it until I make it happen. I know it would be 10 times easier and cheaper with a bolt but its just not what I see in my head. Fair question tho.

Good luck with the journey! Worst case, you end up with a bolt action too, nothing lost.
 
You can try a Springfield "loaded" M1-A rifle (it's the standard m1A except has some added National match upgrades)---might be a tad over your price range, but you can glass bed and do the other upgrades over time. I had 3 shot moa (usually better) with the one I owned years ago.
 
The FN FNAR is guaranteed MOA and I can confirm that mine does just that if not better. Unless you want to go with a restricted it's about your best option IMO.
 
In my opinion I think you are understating the 308 OP, and this is coming from someone who shoots 308 and 7mm mag. Though having never done it, I believe it will take down a buffalo humanely with the right round weight and shot placement (as with any round).

My Vote/Opinion for your predicament is the FN FNAR due to the inherent accuracy of the platform, and not having to deal with trying to make a 30+ year old semi auto BAR shoot at long range.

But hey, if you've got that idea in your head and the willpower to do it, I'd bet you'll accomplish it - somehow.

How accurate are RFB "Hunters" with 24" barrel.. ??? i have the 18" version, and i cant recommend it for precision tasks..
I hear that Valmet Hunter is very accurate...
 
I love the fnar. It's almost perfect and I am aware that the 308 is a great round. Just wanted something faster, flatter shooting and with more energy left at 1000yards. That's why I was looking to mag loads. I wonder if anyone could modify the fnar or the browning bar hog stalker to fire a mag load or even a short mag.
 
Can anyone elaborate on the differences between the browning hog stalker and the fnar. Heavy barrel on the browning too. Internals any different. I prefer the look of the hog stalker but if the fnar is more precise I would start with that.
 
Walther makes what you are looking for WA### in 300wm. Price may be a bit of a hurdle. combining semi and accuracy is a costly venture. You won't find an off the shelf product you like within your budget,
